Former Employee - PC Sales in Succasunna, NJ

    I worked at Circuit City

    Pros

At the time the hourly rate for this position was better than many retail position, and it was the highest paying sales job in the store.

    Cons

Management was always watching me. It made the job a bit stressful. No incentives for selling warranties or expensive products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more guidance on how to more effectively sell. Don't just tell me to sell sell sell, teach!!! And dont always watch me.

    I worked at Circuit City

    Pros

Coworkers. Simple job to get paid for and nothing else. No future as you can see how the company folded.

    Cons

MICROmanaging. When any big company is bored, they decide its best to nitpick everything from your salespitch to your nametag if you are wearing one or not. Pay never increasing due to " inside " review. Hours were horrid. Full time and you get schedule 22 hrs a week? Seriously? With funny schedules like 6-9 close. Who can live like that? Management being incompetent, not knowledgable on products. Just barking out orders from corporate. Policies always changing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hahaha this is funny since I actually left the company at the end of 2005 cause I knew it would go under eventually.

Former Employee - Firedog In-Store Technician in Hicksville, NY

    I worked at Circuit City

    Pros

Senior management was very approachable, respectful, and expected you rise up to meet the challenge of a day at work. Fellow employees were collaborative, although some could use more training. Sad to see it go out of business, as it was one of the highest paying retail employees for skill level

    Cons

Sometimes disorganized, many members recieve little or no training; leading to more issues down the line. Hiring process is haphazard. Out of business

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to approve and pick a good candidate, not one that you can save a few dollars an hour but rather, someone that does the job right the first time.

  11. Circuit City/ Firedog = failure due to poor leadership from corporate offices and a lack of direction

Former Employee - Firedog In-Store/Flex Technician in New York, NY

    I worked at Circuit City

    Pros

Entry level experience and retail sales experience

    Cons

Failure to communicate issues concerning customers and staff

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Positive reinforcement, clearly set career paths, and listening to the opinions of the the subordinates would have been a great start. Also it was a pathetic attempt to poorly mimic other companies ideas of staff management, communication, planograms, and layout, when change and growth are hard bought from originality and innovation.
