Great career advancement opportunities. I grew up at Circuit City and credit that company for growing me internally.

The company wasn't able to keep up with the ever changing demands of consumer electronics.

Company structure and business plan did not work out
Advice to Senior Management
Try again
Pros
I like to receive the free employee discounts on electronics, particularly the car stereo equipment, which I found to be outstanding.
Cons
The company was on the downslide for a longtime. It is a shame it went out of business. Good bye.
Advice to Senior Management

Pros
You have to consider that my review was based on the two years I worked there before Circuit City closed down its retail stores and was bought out by TigerDirect. I don't know how it's changed after the TigerDirect buyout.
- I always had a 40 hour week at least. As one of the two only full-time Firedog Techs, we were able to dictate our schedule more than some of our other employees.
- There was never a typical day to describe our job. With the many customer computer check-ins, diagnostics, as well as dealing with customers, management, and City Advantage (our in-house service plan), we always kept busy.
- Employee discount was good.
Cons
- Lack of staff: most days when I came in, they usually had 1 salesperson per department, which made it challenging when multiple customers wanted help with either a computer, a tv, or even looking up a music cd. This would lead to me delaying any prior work to be done.
- Some of the management staff was more concerned with making daily budget than anything else.
- When we set up our in-house repair center in Texas in late 2008/early 2009. I know it was the first of its kind at Circuit City, but I don't believe the process was thoroughly tested before it was rolled out to all stores. Ask any former firedog technician and they will share the same sentinment.
Advice to Senior Management
People know the brand Circuit City. They want to shop there because the brand name has existed for a very long time. If TigerDirect wants to continue this legacy, they may want to consider opening 1 or 2 stores under the Circuit City brand name on the West Coast, since they have TigerDirect and CompUSA stores on the East Coast.
Pros
Opportunities for advancement are available.
Employee discounts were decent.
Good working environment.
Good starting pay for those with specialized skills.
401K available.
Cons
Managements messages were sometimes conflicting.
Had to sell credit to customers.
Weird gimmicky promotions were often used.
Allowed smokers to take constant breaks.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize and reward your hard working associates early on.
Listen to and acknowledge feedback from employees about company policies and procedures.
Pros
Flexible hours, informative training material, competitive pay. Overall the atmosphere was very nice to work at circuit city aside from the incompetence of the management.
Cons
Incompetent corporate management that have no bearing on retail experience at the store level; they applied illogical marketing techniques across the board.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees more so you can actually get some some guidance into the sales aspect instead of marketing.
Pros
Emerging opportunities to become a leader and challenges that help prepare you.
Cons
The state of the company left no opportunity to develop a career within the company but afforded the opportunity to develop myself and prepare me for a career elsewhere once liquidation was complete.
Advice to Senior Management
