    I worked at Circuit City full-time

    Pros

    On the brighter side, Circuit provided a generally "hands-off" approach to employee management. Very little clock watching, except where deadlines were concerned...and understandably so. Generally good people. Generally good pay.

    Cons

    Many of the company quirks were as novel as the founder's last name. Managers memorized rote definitions of processes and work breakdown structures, but could not adequately explain the "why" underlying key and critical concepts. Projects predating your arrival were handed to you with flaws and all and pegged to your "performance account" if you did not make it work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Upper Management needed to listen more beyond the layer of middle managers. Middle management did nothing more than to adjust what is already provided. No explanations for unique processes and KPIs, and KPMs.

    Pros

    goods never had an A++
    A typical work day is 8 - 5 and you sell online advertisements. Days consist of meeting, calls, training, and office activities.

    Learned how to sell, cold call, negotiate, communicate B2B.

    Hardest part of job is resisting the free food. Most enjoyable is being on the phones and talking to different people.

    Management: A+
    Co-Workers: A++

    I worked at Circuit City full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Large company, innovative, great training programs. Kept things lean, but also had wonderful cafeteria. Central operations were all in fairly close range, so not much travel was involved. Open door policy that was comfortable to work with

    Cons

    The IT department was a little 'Dilbert' like. Standard builds were kept to technology that was several years old, and would change frequently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Training was great, much appreciated! Standards could have used a little more advise from the tech staff, going to the rock bottom line on price on hardware is not always a good idea. High level mismanagement, or mismatch of software / equiptment to the purpose at hand tended to get blamed on the person who carried out the orders, not the source who actually made the decisions.

    No opinion of CEO
