I worked at Cirque du Soleil as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Working on a Cirque show provides an incredible learning experience, especially if you're interested in pursuing a career in a large-scale theatrical environment. As an intern, I got to work with such a diverse group of people, and loved interacting with both the artists and the technicians. It was a very supportive, fun environment. All the while, though, everyone took their jobs seriously, because it is a high-risk working environment. I was given a great deal of responsibility as an intern, which I really appreciated, because I got hands-on experience and really learned what it would be like to be an ASM for that kind of a show.

    Cons

The pay isn't great, and the benefits like complimentary tickets and company merchandise are not the same across all of the shows. I was only given four comps at my show, but a friend was given 12. Also, perhaps it's been taken out now, but there was a clause in my contract saying I could get overtime, when the reality of the situation is that interns are paid out of each show's budget, and none of the shows are really willing to give the interns overtime. All of this being said, though, I still think the internship is worth it.

I have been working at Cirque du Soleil full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good people, great benefits. Jerry Nadal is wonderful to have as our leader.

    Cons

Being part of the support for the shows it is hard to advance up. With the cuts there really is not way to move up unless someone quits and then it's so political that unless you are slated to move into that position you are out of luck.

Upper management sticks together and doesn't really care about the little people. It's all about them.
