Former Employee - Software Engineer II in Bangalore (India)

I worked at Cisco Systems India

    Pros

Best thing about Cisco is the work culture, and the people. I joined this company as a fresher, and really enjoyed all the learning. Everyone from a teammate to the director and VP is approachable and open to suggestions and discussions. Additionally, if you are working on some of the relatively new products like UCS, it is a great opportunity for learning new technologies.

    Cons

Cisco is a huge company, and thus have all the cons associated with a mammoth company. The development cycles are long, and it takes time to fix thing because there is a development ideology being followed for a product, which might have become stale for the current requirements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More aggressive execution of rather good plans.

I worked at Cisco Systems India

    Pros

Excellent pay, cafeteria and cab service.
    Work from home.
    Annual health checkup.

    Cons

Lay offs - don't get fooled by claims of only bottom 5% of performers get the boot. Cisco threw out some very dedicated and talented people in 2014. Business plans change on a whim, and good people lose jobs. 2-3 years down the line, you will pay the price for the shallow decisions taken today.
Your experience depends on which team you join. Beware if you get an offer from teams with higher percentage of Malayalees, specially women. Most of them are horrible co-workers, even if they are good at their work. They do mean and unprofessional things to bring others down and work hard to build an empire and bring more of their kind in.
Some managers are clueless, weak, promote favouritism and play people against each other. Some of them do not possess much technical knowledge and project themselves as "people managers". If you sense that your manager is harming your career prospects and not letting you develop in the areas that interest you, do not let it go. Leave, or try to remedy the situation smartly.
If you are not highly competitive and don't suck up to the right people, you will not survive here. You need to be tough, question everything, and trust no one.
Every few months, you will hear news of an employee committing suicide or dying of a heart attack.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Intensify the background checks process. There are some people with issues such as alcoholism, psychiatric disorders, shaky educational and career background who currently work here.
Deal strictly with bullies, even if they are good performers. HR never bothers about complaints of bullying and harassment.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
