Current Employee - Technical Leader II in Lawrenceville, GA

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Competitive pay
    Significant annual bonus (usually)
Huge company with serious brand recognition

    Cons

Too much work being done by too few people
    Extremely tight deadlines
Too many incompetent engineers (in my group) with no repurcussions
Periodic "restructuring" affects morale and doesn't improve workload.
Lay offs usually affect employees based on project importance rather than employee merit
Huge company is difficult to manage
Most innovation comes from acquisition rather than internal invention

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more engineers, restore focus on competence and excellence, stop the blanket lay-offs that force managers to cull the herd somewhat indiscriminately.
