I have been working at Cisco Systems

    Pros

Challenging and interesting work; I have never gotten bored and the company does not suffer complacency.

    Cons

Managing a work/life balance is challenging. There is always more to do, more to learn, etc. It is your job to manage your time and the expectations of your manager, co-workers, and customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe that the company is better managed than it has been in over a decade. The Cisco strategy is working. Cisco is able to hire good talent because good talent is willing to work for Cisco at lower salaries; however, the tolerance for lower salaries is waining. The job salary range studies are wrong; you must have better granularity with job titles in your benchmark studies.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Big title company, still the leader in the industry, plenty of opportunity to interact with customers.

    Cons

Constant reorg and workforce reduction/layoff have created an untrust culture within teams & colleagues. Company is known for bonus based - performance review can affect the bonus. Cisco tends to hire people as contractors first, a bit strange compared with experience i had in other companies. The promotion tends to be "organically grown" - need to be with Cisco for a long time to be able to be promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company is transforming, however, the vision & strategy is unclear. The hiring & promotional decision aren't always transparent - noticed many people transfer in between teams without interviewing process.
