I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexibility, possibility to work remote, although can depend on the manager, which helps to have a good work life balance. Generally working with high professional teams which is very enriching. Common availability of good collaboration tools.

    Cons

No career progression in certain area's and/or locations. Due to yearly work force reductions more and more workload pressure on the remaining individuals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More attention for individual workload.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - work from home policy is liberal
    - dev and test generally are on same payscales as per grade
    - from tech lead/manager level upward the pay and bonus are pretty good
    - reasonable work hrs except in certain crunch times
    - well developed process to roll out products, does not depend on 'napoleons' to get things done
    - good childcare center is onsite albeit one needs to reserve seat 24 months in advance, special cabs are provided to parents who want to bring the kids in cabs
    - vast array of food choices at reasonable price
    - good bus/cab service at nominal charge and two timings to every part of the city

    Cons

    - payscale for junior grades not that good
    - variable nature of work, some times good or bad depending on project or business unit
    - tendency of san jose to monopolize all the best work and opportunities even in relation to other sites in the US
    - too many mid level managers probably
    - due to long tail of support for legacy products lot of time goes in that, as opposed to fresh cleansheet work
    - a tendency to shift product support from site to site without enough skill building
    - hard to get promotions and raises in general
    - HR is invisible behind a web tool, the manager is doing HR role mostly

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - distribute work more around the dev sites rather than let san jose eat all the fresh meat . they mess up as much as anyone else. avoiding looking at san jose as the 'gods'
    - be more generous with pay for juniors to retain the best candidates
    - make it worth it for senior tech people by improving overall profile of work in india

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexibility of the way you can work is great, certainly a pro! Great place to learn from a very varied workforce.

    Cons

It is hard to move up, change career paths and get a pay rise. Not the best place to be if you are early in your career, not much focus put there.

Great company with some flaws that are inevitable of such a large company

    I worked at Cisco Systems

    Pros

The company offers training to keep software engineers sharp. The company also does an excellent job getting news of employee hard work through the command chain so that said employee can move up the ladder.

    Cons

Some people show up 9-5 and do not care at all, but I suppose that comes with any big company.

    I worked at Cisco Systems

    Pros

Many smart people, leading edge technologies, global footprint, generally good at anticipating and capturing market transitions

    Cons

Leadership fosters a highly political environment with the obvious result of poor decision making many times. The company makes too much money via free cash flow and that allows many bad habits and people to stick around

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Share buyback is farcical......
