I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Working hour is flexible, can work from home. 20 days of PTO. Good work life balance. Have opportunities to work on wide variety of projects that requires different skills.

    Cons

Overall salary and package is not competitive. Company is struggling for growth, a lot of laid off in the past few years. People get laid off are not necessarily incompetent people but more of how strong their relationships.

Got lost and trying to find itself again

I have been working at Cisco Systems

    Pros

Brand, Financial stability, people on the ground level, breadth of technology, does acquisitions better than most, global, ease of working globally, flexibility in work location, benefits in the upper quartile

    Cons

too many directors and VPs spend too much time managing up for their own careers and not leading their teams; bloated in the middle, that is, too many VPs and directors, too many layoffs, promotion of the wrong people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop talking about leading and what leaders should do and start leading, real leading, not waffle leading
Stop being driven by Wall street and start being driven by what we can do for the world, that is live our own tagline
Pay more attention to the working teams, listen more, talk less

I have been working at Cisco Systems as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    -Not micro-managed
    -Great Environment
-This company is headed in a great direction because they are software driven and understand the market and how to be successful.
-Getting bigger every day, always acquiring new companies
-Casual environment that allows you to be who you are and have personality.
-Co-workers are extremely helpful in all departments, very team oriented.

    Cons

My current job has its own challenges but am ready for take on more and it is very difficult to get to the next level.
My boss is not very involved in the day to day operations, don't have as much support from them as I would like to have. In my current position with the account managers we support we have to hand hold them a lot and take on responsibilities that they should be able to handle and be held accountable for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although I am glad I am not micro managed, it would be nice to have more of a relationship with my boss than I currently have, as I only see him once or twice a week. Account managers need more training with Cisco tools such as CSCC and basic operations tasks so that they can understand what we do. This would also help them be able to ask us better questions and help them relay it to partners and customers. Since I have been at Cisco there has been 2 big cuts in middle management positions and this is a big deterrent in wanting to stay with the company.

I worked at Cisco Systems as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

They do a very good job of pairing you up with mentors, and I went from knowing nothing about big data to knowing a whole lot after just one summer thanks to some great mentorship.

The expectations are extremely lax in terms of the hours you put in, and people in my department would often come in at 10 and leave at 3.

Cisco does a lot of team building lunches and the ilk. Paid work day at Great America theme park and other fun perks

    Cons

Like a lot of other big companies, it's nearly impossible to see how your work contributes to a final product. That, paired with the nature of Cisco's business prevented me from getting excited enough to return
