    Pros

Great culture, fantastic people, diverse opportunity across geo and segment, brand, global opportunity and strength of balance sheet, innovation and transformation. Benefits good, flexible working excellent, real efforts to change and grow people.

    Cons

Promotion still outdated and based on who you know - management give advice to move and rotate within the business yet promote people who stay put. Attempts to increase female senior management % still feels slow and limited, focus primarily on young women entering IT or women with children. Missing the 'mid layer' and losing talent accordingly. Too much focus on what it costs to promote people (i.e. grade increase) than promoting the right person

    Advice to Management

Promote on talent not on cost. Shake up your management teams in geo more often - limited rotation in certain segments means things get stale and talent can't shine.

    Pros

Top management, i.e. Chambers and his top team are inspirational, reasonable, progressive people who I believed to be in it for reasons other than money and power. Flexible working was excellent although this can vary depending on how much of a dinosaur your manager is. Salary/bonus/benefits were pretty good.

    Cons

Some really strange appointments, as in new hires, were made within my organisation. I can only think this a symptom of such a large company finding it difficult to filter the core values of the leadership team down to all levels.

    Advice to Management

Stick to hiring bright, energetic and enthusiastic people at all levels who are passionate about what they do

    Pros

    - Good salaries - Autonomous working - Good working set-up (IT support, smartphone, quick expenses re-imbursement) - Great training - Excellent involvement of everyone at all levels in company matters (e.g. at quarterly company meetings)

    Cons

    - All flights are in economy, even to Australia - Too many changes of managers - Managers not trained well enough - Masses of jargon, guff and stuff about we're the best when actually Cisco is pretty much like any other tech company out there nowadays

    Advice to Management

Train Managers before they are given responsibility of having employees report to them

    Pros

Compensation Reward/recognition culture Leading products/services Large and relatively stable organisation

    Cons

Messy structure Promotional opportunities are rare, and can be based on who you know Complexity of solutions - real simplification is required Lots of re-organisation without clear rationale being provided to the field

    Pros

Very little. Nice location to work. Engineers are talented and work hard to achieve for their projects and customers.

    Cons

Plenty. Lots of overselling to customers and underpricing of contracts. Trying to break into markets where they have little experience. Confused middle management. Poor morale. Teams overworked and over committed by sales force who have no idea of what they are committing their people to. Lots of staff cuts too.

    Advice to Management

Train the sales people to respect the delivery teams. Support them when issues are raised and not focus solely on their commission from sales. Treat all workers with decency.
