If you can make it here, you probably can make it anywhere.

    Director (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsGlobal footprint is its unique differentiator. No other bank has its reach-- from people to products to platforms. Very fast-paced and bottomline-driven. Very unique to feel the world at your literal fingertips.

ConsThe bank caters to the triple A -- the large multinational, the large government client, the high net worth individual. If the client isn't in this category, the client isn't valued. So big and complicated, it is prone to many broken pieces that need constant fixing. In many cases, the pressure to deliver on revenues is so high, products are not built properly. Hence, the amount of re-work, fire-fighting and managing client escalations is very high.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove the culture more. Compensate the good soldiers better.

Forget your family life. They expect you around the clock and frequently. No appreciation how hard you work

    Risk Analyst (Current Employee)
    Elk Grove Village, IL

ProsVacation policy is good, Provided you can take it.

ConsToo long work hours including working in weekends. Benefits are not at all great. More of the cost is pushed over to the employees. They give work deadline in the evening and expect it to be done that night. Don't hire enough workers Poor management, Always in a put-out fire mode, due to unrealistic deadlines

    Working at Citi

    Vice President (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsMany lines of businesses in Citi support telecommute or alternate work site (AWS). Benefits are not the greatest but decent. People are generally cooperative and work together well.

ConsCiti has been going through cost cutting every year since the great recession. Work force reduction has been a constant theme, as a result employee morals are low and up potential is limited.

    Intern in Corporate Tax

    Corporate Tax Intern (Former Employee)

ProsLots of exposure to excel, which is good experience for an intern

ConsVery few people were happy in this department, partially because of trouble the company was working through and partially just because of the culture

    Big Corp, Bad Integration

    Vice President (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsGood support both internally and externally. Even some traders are nice.

ConsMy friend worked in the private banking side in HK but for some reason I could not find her email in the email system! Can you believe it?

Advice to Senior ManagementJust like any other investment banking firm, you need to befriend the management even being a super star. If your MD likes you, then you're golden.

    The Citi way....

Assistant Vice President, Quality Assurance Manager (Current Employee)

ProsGood Benefits and the company does hire good people to do the jobs.
I love the people I work with.

ConsThey truly believe in human capital - not people that make contributions.
While they have hired good people they do not utilize them to their full potential.
The good ole boy system is firmly in place.

Advice to Senior ManagementRemember that business is all about people, not numbers.

    Positive 3 years at Citigroup

    Broadcast Engineer (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsEven though it was a large corporation, my group ran independently and functioned like a small company

ConsIt could be difficult to get expenditure on new equipment and projects approved

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to give autonomy to groups within the company; the best way to people engaged and working at maximum potential is to delegate downwards whenever possible
