I worked at Citi full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

In the more than five, less than ten years I worked there my compensation more than doubled. Company kept us throughout the recession. Was eventually laid off with the rest of the staff, but received months of notice and a lot of support through the process. Contacts at this company actually helped me get my next job. Lots of opportunities to move around and advance, very supportive culture.

    Cons

Nothing really jumps to mind. Life after Citi makes it apparent how good you had it, because no job will ever do more to take care of you than they will. Note, I was a very low ranked employee. When the people on the bottom can say that, you're doing something right.

    Pros

Citi provides a variety of employment opportunities with it's global reach. Great benefits. Direct leadership team has an understanding of the day to day operations.

    Cons

Lack of communication at times. Making major announcements without letting those that are impacted aware of the change. Changes in various established processes. If something is not broke don't try to 'fix it'.

I worked at Citi as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Good resources and opportunities to network. Great cafeteria. Interesting projects and opportunities for further involvement. Decent salary with benefits that make you want to stay.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic and difficult to navigate. Senior management not always coherent on message and lacking on strong leadership. Too many meetings that were not purposeful.

I have been working at Citi full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

For such a large company, the communication is very good. I feel like I know what is happening because Vikram Pandit is very transparent about where we stand before earnings reports and big announcements are made.

    Cons

Sometimes it's hard to tell what your individual impact is to the company's overall progress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know what your employees are working on, and show your appreciation so that they know you care about and appreciate their efforts. Help them understand their overall impact to the larger organization, even if it is in small, non-monetary ways (team recognition, pat on the back, thank you note, etc.).
