    Pros

All levels of any information technologies. In depth professional knowledge and hands on experience with all mainframe systems and other platforms as well. In depth management experience as well as I have managed teams of up to 1500 individuals and budgets of at least $10 million dollars and all projects and deliverables have been met on time without any lapses or extensions needed at all.

    Cons

None I am aware of at the moment or can recall from the past. Everyone has a con, however sometimes another professional colleague may see it and you may not see it yourself in order for improvement.

    Advice to Management

No need to provide and advice to management of this outstanding global banking and investment corporation at all. Professional to the letter.

    Pros

It has been a pleasure working at Citi. I've worked at other large banks and found the corporate culture at Citi to be more welcoming, collaborative and supportive. I'd definitely recommend working for this firm. Of course, variances may occur depending on which department you work for, but overall, I'm pleased.

    Cons

Recent reorganization and cost cutting efforts (which are experienced across the banking industry) have reduced staff and changed many functions. Of course, only time will tell if the changes boost the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

My direct manager is the best manager that I've ever reported to in the course of my career on Wall Street, so I am grateful. For Senior Management, my advice would be to remember that at the end of the day, the people who work for you are your greatest resource. Support, encouragement and humility go a long way.

    Pros

Culture is extremely diverse and truly global, people are generally nice, efforts to make employees happy, help them grow, and pay them well

    Cons

Extremely bureaucratic, there's no incremental benefit to giving 100% effort vs 60% effort

    Advice to Management

Identify and foster talent better, try to mitigate major mistakes that damage the brand

    Pros

Mostly helpful people, good team spirit. They try to do things the right way.

    Cons

Tons of bureaucracy, Technology is weak. Global nature means lots of late night calls.

    Advice to Management

Before you agree to a deadline on a major project or initiative, ask the people who are actually working on it what they think.

    Pros

Citi offers excellent benefits and a diverse culture. The compensation is at least or better than market average

    Cons

Centralization of job functions leave some uncertainty in long term career path outlook.

    Advice to Management

Centralizing talent geographically for specific roles , especially in a global company is shortsighted

    Pros

    Huge international reach
    Great for career networking
Still a great name on your resume despite being laid low in the financial crisis
On-site medical clinic (at least at 388 Greenwich)

    Cons

Size/breadth can be a liability - steady drip of scandals requiring huge settlements/fines, always created some excuse why we couldn't get good bonuses even though the scandals had nothing to do with my business area
Some people pull for the team at Citi, others are only out for themselves
Politics can be tricky, you need to find multiple strong senior backers or you're at risk

    Advice to Management

When I was there, it seemed a consistent management strategy was to create co-heads to avoid losing someone if they didn't get promoted; then usually they would either not get along or one would get fired. Bizarre strategy. Don't make people co-heads unless the job is really big enough for two. Also, don't just follow Goldman or JP's strategies. Come up with new business strategies on your own and get there before they do.
