I worked at Citi full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Citi is a vast company with many diverse and different people to meet and work with while your are employed by Citi. Working for a larger company like Citi provides security during good financial times in the industry.

    Cons

When the financial industry starts to encounter tough times, Citi is typically the first to be impacted. Since the crisis, Citi struggled to grow revenues while trying to manage its expense base. Cost cutting and reductions-in-force are quite common during the tougher times in the industry. Citi also strategizes to be middle-of-the-road to average in terms of compensating employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Voice-of-the-Employee every year shows that employees do not believe senior management will act on the results of the VOE. Citi management should ensure that significant investments are made into employee morale, culture, compensation and development. Citi has turned into too much of a revolving door for many middle level managers and non-managing middle level employees.

    Pros

People are generally nice and helpful; bosses sometimes understanding; personal time allowed; pressure not too hard; extremely international and diverse work environment; chances to work with colleagues overseas; very large and active in most market areas so many opportunities to learn

    Cons

bureaucratic and slow to get things done, need to escalate a lot to senior management; pay a little below bulge brackets

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Former Employee - Product Control Analyst in Getzville, NY

I worked at Citi full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Health benefits, 401k plan, work on a team, company parties/employee appreciation seminars, bonuses based on performance

    Cons

Often work more than 8 hours a day but the position was salary - so no OT pay. Hostile traders - training process was not thorough enough to understand work duties.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on training and improving management tactics.

Current Employee - Intern in New York, NY

I have been working at Citi as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere, great manager who was not overbearing, and a supportive overseas team.

    Cons

Boring work ( I worked on projects I wasn't really interested in), such a big company its really hard to get to know people. Food is expensive, I know they pay well, but so do other companies and they dont charge their employees to use the company gym.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I dont have much advice to give. I wouldn't work here because its just not my type of environment.
