    I worked at Citi full-time

    Pros

Citi sees some of the largest trading volumes of the industry. As such you will get access to every product and trading instrument on the market today. It's a great place to train and learn the ropes.

To boot, if you do well, you can stay and have a successful career across citi's global footprint, changing cities, functions and rising the Wall Street foodchain.

    Cons

Trading margins are shrinking and so it's getting harder and harder to get in the door. The best way is to come straight from undergrad or masters (or quantitative PhD) programs.

Citi is a large company and so there is a fair bit of politics.

    Advice to Management

Despite Citi's size, the fate of each employee lies in their immediate manager's hands. Following a Google-esque approach where managers and their ratings are normalized across the company could help create fairer outcomes.

Great benefits and the team was amazing. You really learn on the job and it was very fast paced.

    Cons

The company lacked necessary tools to perform the duties. The expectations were unrealistic with low staff numbers.

    Pros

Lots of bright people and a good culture of mentorship, lots of resources and established knowledge base/businesses, big client base, good work/life balance

    Cons

It's easy to get swallowed up in such a large company, lots of systems (technology support groups) are slow, out of date, ineffective, and Byzantine. Harder to get promoted in the current environment. Regulation has made a lot of seemingly innocuous activity potentially a violation, and you could be on your own to make legal arrangements if the regulators come after you or the firm

    Advice to Management

the bank is not doing anything to make employees feel confident that the bank will defend them if the regulators pursue legal action against them.

    Pros

Great entry level work for someone right out of college or who doesn't have college Experience but still has years of work experience

    Cons

Mortgage industry is not something to stay in.
Get in get out before you have too many years work experience and then you become stuck . Also layoffs happen frequently every 2 years or so in the industry as a whole .

    Pros

Great benefits, 4 and a half weeks of paid vacation, conservative company, challenging and interesting position

    Cons

Poor pay compared to same role in different company, promotions based on who you know rather than performance, job stacking, layoffs common, too much focus on senior talent rather than people actually doing the hands on work

    Advice to Management

Pay better, recognize contributions at all levels of the organization as people managers are overworked and under recognized. Be competitive in pay and stop job stacking...you are burning people our quickly and losing good talent because of this and the low pay
