I worked at Citi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you like fast paced work, this is the place to be. The *vastness* of the network (infrastructure) allows you to experience things that you will not experience elsewhere. Also, the work life balance is EXCELLENT.

    Cons

The sheer amount of emails you get everyday can, and is, very daunting. You really have to be disciplined to stay on top of it. Also, sometimes, people use the "process" to slow down projects. As they say: "You can't fire someone for following the process" But it can be tough to get initiatives through.

    Advice to Management

Senior managers need to balance the need to have process with lightening the burden that it creates for the employees.

I worked at Citi full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good on resume. Work from home options. Good 401K. Tuition reimbursement. Discount on phone bills and other vendors. Minimum 4 weeks paid time off. Time off on 10 national holidays.

    Cons

Strict dress code. Full of office politics. Work time is not flexible. No time off the day before Thanksgiving. Limited growing space. Limited raise opportunity.

    Advice to Management

It will be great if the working environment can be a bit more flexible and relaxing. Political game is a big stress in the office. No choice on the work devices is a big no for the tech people.

I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Favourable work hours, real opportunities to be promoted to Private Banker for the most successful banker associates.

    Cons

Wide dispersion of salaries for associate bankers performing the same tasks. From what I could tell, the base salaries for associate bankers ranged from 75k to 115k. Lateral hires were always paid more than associate bankers who ha worked at the company prior as analyst or some other lower position. .

    Advice to Management

Management should create a compensation structure that is transparent and based on role, title, years of experience, performance and other measurable qualities. It should be secret. The lack of transparency lead to resentment in the organisation.

I worked at Citi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The only pros are great co-workers and benefits.

    Cons

Managers are extremely biased, transactional with some of them employees, and display favoritism towards some of the employees they've known for a while. The company only think about the bottom line and is not at all family oriented even though that's what they want you to believe.

    Advice to Management

Management should take refresher courses on talents retention and how to be better managers because you have to know someone to advance within the company.

    I worked at Citi full-time

    Pros

Co-Workers in the same position were amazing. This is one of those positions where you hate the job but love your co-workers.

    Cons

Stressful, unreasonable expectations, showed the company had no heart, and company wanted you to do their dirty work. Pay was horrible but the benefits were great.

    Advice to Management

How about listening to all your employees instead of surveying a few. Create reasonable expectations for collections and stop forcing people to beg or force people to give money when they are about to lose their house or just gone through job loss. Very heartless and employees get in trouble when they do not force clients to give money.

    Pros

Global vision, company is willing to spend money developing people. Investment banking culture is not as hard-nose and snobbish as other firms probably because the company's commercial/consumer banking root

    Cons

Like many big companies, a lot room for operation and efficiency improvement.
