I worked at Citi full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Keeps you so busy, time passes quickly. They provide access to training.

    Cons

Promotions and raises are generally risk based as opposed to merit based. In not so many words, you'll be asked how little can we pay you without you leaving. There are good managers that do reward based on merit, but they are hard to find.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please realize that every remark you make, even if made in a humorous way causes hundreds of people to jump and begin ad-hoc work.

    I worked at Citi

    Pros

Because of its size, there are opportunities to move from one sector to another to gain knowledge of, and experience in, different businesses.

    Cons

A lot of bureaucracy, declining compensation, and positions moving to India at a rapid pace.
Company talks of meritocracy, but it doesn't exist. Truly a place where "it's who you know, not what you know" that gets you ahead.
Many fiefdoms where business heads rule with impunity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to value your employees more.
Recognize their skills, experiences and contributions.
Management needs to deliver on its commitments to its shareholders and its employees.

I worked at Citi for more than 5 years

    Pros

For a bank, great work-life balance. Focus on developing employees. Very large firm with lots of divisions and geographies to explore.

    Cons

There is a lot of red tape. Highly political environment, to the extent that it detracts from getting the job done.

I have been working at Citi full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Been with Citi for over a decade. In that time I've seen my skill set expanded, my responsibilities grow and have met colleagues that have since become friends.

    Cons

9 months after being hired, pension was done away with. 3 years in, took a 5% pay cut. 5 years started seeing mass lay offs in the Northeast. Eventually talent and institutional wisdom was lost.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not espouse yourselves as a corporation that values meritocracy when in the end, it all comes down to tax-breaks and off loading your best workers for faceless off-shored "resources".

I have been working at Citi part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Citi provides you with great benefits as well as wonderful co-workers to help you in need.

    Cons

Tellers do most of the work and are paid the least. You're expected to answer the phone even if you have a line of customers.

Management expects you to walk in the first day and know everything and when you ask a question, you get looked at like you're incompetent. That's where good co-workers come in. Managers don't want to bother babying you.

They care more about KDS than anything else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please train your managers in customer service. They should act like they care about their tellers. They are the face of the bank who do most of the work.
