I have been working at Citi full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work/life balance and an even better, highly flexible work schedule/alternate workplace policy. Generally speaking, as long as you deliver, you can work from home with a reasonable schedule either when needed or on a regular schedule. Your mileage may vary depending on the specific group you're in but across the TTS Technology landscape, just about everyone works remotely some portion of time.

    Cons

Bureaucracy, plain and simple. You will spend 80% of your work like of purely administrative tasks, responding to exception reports, doing things to stay off exception reports, etc. Then there are all the organizational "asks" - fill this out, collect metrics on this, etc. All of this is on top of the 100-200 emails per day that a typical mid-level or higher technology person gets. Forget about doing anything meaningful or value-added - this is the type of place that you just put your time in and collect a paycheck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find ways to cut out some of the administrative overhead. You seek to hire knowledgeable technology pros, yet when you do, you then put them in the position where those skills languish and go unused, simply because the Enterprise focus seems to be on the bureaucracy.

I have been working at Citi full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Remote work is awesome for a work life balance. I work with some very intelligent people. Lot's of room to grow and learn existing technologies.

    Cons

As a software developer i want to stay away from making widgets. I want to work on projects that are interesting, and give me a chance to build new technologies. Citi as a company isn't focused on this. They care about reducing cost (as they should), stockholder perception (as they should), etc. I am projecting my career goals here; however, there are limited opportunities to invent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should not survey it's employee for better ways to manage. If your a manager / leader / officer of the company isn't that your job? It's frustrating to know big bonuses are being paid to managers who get told how to be better. If the idea is mine shouldn't i get a cut????
