Former Employee - Assistant Manager in Palm Bay, FL

I worked at Citi Trends full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Inexpensive clothes, customer service, great work life balance. Regional managers and above truely care about their region and their stores.

    Cons

Employees do not make enough compared to their responsibilities. Managers do not make nearly enough. Only the GM is salaried so some stores have managers that "dont care"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer Benefits to full time employees, have a better outlook and stronger values. When reading the company handbook it does not come off as sincere and genuine. It does not seem like its that important and maybe if it seemed important it would be taken more seriously and the company would improve on the store levels.

New management does not get the customer

    Former Employee - Anonymous

    I worked at Citi Trends

    Pros

The existing merchandising staff was exceptional. Truly knew who the customer was and how to drive the business. Between off-price brands and upfront purchases the mix was Great value and quality.

    Cons

New management had total disregard for being competitively retailed. Stopped store trips. Big mistake this was one of the ways we kept the pulse of the customer. Planning paralysis was also occurring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back a management staff that are true merchants. Not just bean counters.

I worked at Citi Trends full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The hours were nice. It was also nice to be the first to see the new items that came in the store.

    Cons

Not enough people to work and keep the store functioning properly. The location was bad and the place really needed security. The stores are way overstocked which leads to it looking messy all the time. The poorly staffing conditions made it easy for shoppers to shoplift and get away with it because not enough people are working. To make matters worse the employees get blamed for the shortages and also get treated like they are the cause for the shortages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people and be more concerned with the safety of your workers. Staffing levels make it easy for customers to shoplift. Stop putting the blame on the workers.

I worked at Citi Trends (more than a year)

    Pros

    You get a SMALL paycheck.

    Cons

The district manager didn't care about the employees or any issues they had. She only cared about what her boss thought about her. She talks to adults like they are 3 year old children. District manager would try to have only 1 person working in the store and closing the store alone, she had no regard for the employees safety.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to learn that you can't have a successful business without the "little people" that have to run it daily. Start paying people better so you get better quality people to work for you.
