London, England (UK)

Current Employee – been working at Citi full-time for less than a year

ProsCitis rotational program offers excellent flexibility, great work life balance. I really feel as through I can gain whatever skills and experience I need during the program. Its a highly respected program with in the organization and I also get a sense that graduates of the program do excel if they focus.

ConsLike working at any other global bank, there is too much red tape. You need to obtain approvals for many minute details and overall accountability through out the organization is low. If you have an overall mentality of "lets get things done" it can be difficult.

Advice to Senior Management-Increase accountability through out the organization.
-Performance should be judged on objective criteria rather than politics

ProsNone. I actually felt I went back 5/6 years in my career.

Cons-Worst management ever seen in my career. People were completely careless about the quality of the software being delivered
-Worst ever procedures and processes. The tools used were obsolete and cumbersome. The processes were horrendously inefficient and time-consuming.
-NO enthusiasm in the team.
-No willingness to improve in any aspect. Although management was told how to change processes and procedures, they did not care at all.
.......

Advice to Senior Management- Put more passion on your job otherwise do something else and stop wasting peoples time

ProsNetworking can get you anywhere - but watch your back, it's easier to make enemies than to make friends in this environment.

Cons1. HR have way too much power.
2. The egos...oh dear lord...the egos. Stroke them too much and you won't be liked. Stroke them too little and you're a nobody.
3. Why is it that everyone who works here has a long face?

London, England (UK)

Current Employee – been working at Citi full-time for more than 7 years

ProsOnly reason is exposure to Enterprise technology.

ConsTerrible performance appraisal system - jobs for the boys
Appalling Managers (some) who would be sacked anywhere else are left to run teams into the ground.
Revolting facilities in Lewisham for technology staff (due to move back to Canary Wharf in fairness.
Little or no reward or recognition for hard work unless you are an A class self-promoter prepared to stab your colleagues in the back.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the old school dinosaurs that are ruining your organisation.

Belfast, Northern Ireland (UK)

Current Employee – been working at Citi full-time for more than a year

ProsEverything is always very clean cut no grey areas, and politically correct
Lots of outside activitites to get involved in
You get out what you put in
Get to work on wiode range of technologues depending on what team your in, C++, C, Java, Linux, Windows, bash, perl, ruby

ConsSometimes the amount of red tape as a developer is particulary frustrating

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to grow Belfast as a hub for Citi Development.
It is good to see so many jobs coming into Northern Ireland

ProsFriendly team but flexibility changes from manager to manager. Hours are standard work hours not too many late nights. I generally work 8:30 to 18:00. Career progression can be quite good if you get on well with your management team. Basic salary is above average. Extensive facilities in the building.

ConsPoor bonuses in the operations area. Working from home is an option in only an emergency. Systems in the operations areas are very old and lots of processes are very manual. System upgrades are in progress but the new systems don't seem as good as ones I've used in other companies 7 years ago.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more generous with your operations staff bonuses. Question the quality of the new systems you are installing. Move with the times and install more flexible working hours for your staff.
