The Private Bank is too insulated

    Vice President (Current Employee)

ProsFriendly colleagues, who care about doing good work. Potential opportunity to switch to other businesses within Citi.

ConsToo many senior managers making decisions based on their ego, not on what's best for the firm. Raises, bonuses, promotions not tied to performance, only to who you know.

Advice to Senior ManagementBring in outside perspective, the inner circle only wants to hear views that they agree with which damages innovation and morale.

    Citi Review

    Associate (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsThe best place to learn the business of banking
Flexibility in terms of which area of the bank you would like to work in

    ConsLots of red tape
Parts tend to be very heirarchical
Performance (or lack of it) isnt rewarded. However, political abilities are highly valued

Advice to Senior ManagementCurrently, the orginization is orginized by product. Break it up and reoginize into a client segment focused orginization which makes use of all products

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Conforms to traditional ways and fails to promote or reward innovation.

    Technical Analyst (Current Employee)
    Belfast, Northern Ireland (UK)

ProsThe only thing I enjoyed about working at Citi was getting paid - that part they are good at. Most of my colleagues were excellent folk too.

ConsNon technical career bureaucrats that rode on the backs of excellent engineers to further their own agenda whilst falsely promoting a team environment. Little room for innovation and they hired more of the same types as those getting themselves somewhere. Heavy politics and low staff morale for those teams who suffered. I never saw so much ass kissing by adults in my 20 years in IT.

Advice to Senior ManagementBreak the mould and hire some renegades. Pay attention to who provides the work not those that bring it to your attention.

A true career, within a global company

    Director (Former Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsYou name it, you can do it as a career, within the vast company. There is a true sense of value of all staff, and generally, management are supportive

ConsFinance is fickle, and the market changes frequently. The blinkered need to achieve a (say) 10% cut again... coupled with frustrating bureaucracy... can make it hard work to simply raise a purchase order!

Advice to Senior ManagementEncourage the team to work through the processes, and simplify - not just to work around!

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
