I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Citi was a good company until they opened the door for managment consulting.

    Cons

Hire and fire. Dont give up a good Job just to join Citi.

    Advice to Management

This would be a waste of time. Senior Managers at Citi are not born to listen. They are hired to execute.

I have been working at Citi as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Large well known brand - Well located (Canary Wharf) - As a 'machine' fairly well oiled

    Cons

The main downside I've experienced at Citi is the people I've come across. There are some talented individuals here however they're buried and help back amongst the many many clueless institutionalized types. The best illustration is this... In the IT side of the business, people will regularly approach you without saying hello - and start explaining their problem in the most granular way using all kinds of acronyms and insider terms and assume that; a) know what they're talking about b) you'll jump at the chance to help I honestly get the impression that many people here have 'slipped through the net' in terms of interviewing and have no idea what they are doing. If you cannot explain something in simple terms, you do not understand it - I've dealt with very few people here who can explain anything in simple terms.

    Advice to Management

I know there's been some 're-structuring' in the IT side of the business which is good - my advice would be that less is more.. You're better off with 5 well paid talented individuals than 50 of the types I've come across here.

    I worked at Citi full-time

    Pros

    Pros

Work life balance is good but it all depends on where you work and at your managers discretion.

    Cons

No centralised datawarehouse, too many systems, low pay, bonuses are low, in house systems could be improved

    Advice to Management

    None

    Pros

They pay well compared to local rivals, i guess it looks good on the CV once you leave (and you will)

    Cons

The hours, the managers, the lack of any compassion at all. It is the worst place i have EVER worked.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of all the nasty managers you have and actually start to treat your staff like humans.

I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A huge company with many lateral opportunities in low cost locations. A global brand. Canary wharf offices are quite nice.

    Cons

Too much concentrating on promoting people who look good on paper. Constant problems with stability in risk area. Unbelievable beurocracy. Almost impossible to get promoted above VP. It's not what you know it's who you know. Major under investment in QA and non production support. Not enough environment stability. Minimal automation. People are praised based on how they look. Not what they do. Vengeful managers who are worried about their jobs more than the company. Pointless townhalls

    Advice to Management

Stop wasting money by truing to cut cost and underinvest in tech. IT is the stuff that allows you to make money. Enough with cutting

    Pros

    Advice to Management

No particular advice. It was a great experience, the training and talks were very insightful. I recommend the company to anyone who is interesting in the banking industry
