Pros
Citi is a huge company, so there are many opportunities to work in different fields across different functions. I also feel that outside of certain programs (for example, Finance Analyst Program) it is easy to move between functions. People here are smart and hardworking and salary is competitive. Generally the people I work with are friendly and I enjoy working with them.
Cons
In such a large company, you can often feel like a marching ant. I think performance reviews are too casual, leading to some inefficient, unqualified employees remaining employed under the radar despite frustration from coworkers.
Advice to Senior Management
Better performance reviews.
Pros
Globality of the company allows for opportunities in various markets
Knowledge sharing and communicating across teams in delivering complex projects very rewarding
Cons
Globality of the company also makes it difficult to identify a true SME quickly
Dependence on outsourced resources in delivering projects
Pros
All Benefits From Day 1
Work From Home Available
Incentives
Thank You Points
Cons
Mismanagement
Deny all unemployment claims
Poor Employee Recongition
Favoritism with employees
Low Employee Morale
Force Higher Paid Employees out
Bias Call Grading
Will fire you by phone, if you work from home.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees better and more fairly
Pros
1. Global company
2. Good benefits packages.
3. Can have a good work - life balance, depending on the division.
Cons
1. Definitely not a meritocracy. Promotions are based only on who you know- not competence or talent of any kind.
2. Horrible HR policies and people.
3. Super siloed even within divisions.
4. Lack of competent middle-management.
5. Complete lack of accountability or responsibility.
6. Revolving door of senior management - most of them brought from external banks.
Advice to Senior Management
Please evaluate the way you train and retain key talent. There has to be greater accountability across the organization. Promote senior leadership from within.
Pros
Casual atmosphere, friendly employees
great benefits
Cons
Company is too large. Too many layers of management. The company is in a constant state of flux and reorganization.
Pros
Work from home (which comes with good and bad)
Higher salary than industry
Good benefits
Cons
Too much work... Work an average 70 plus hours a week
Unrealistic expectations from management
Lack the business tools which directly affect their employee’s ability to perform in an effective manner, wasting time, money and adding frustration and unnecessary delays
Lack of interaction and support from upper management
Lower level management is not open to process improvement, seem to be more self absorbed with their own career initiatives rather than over all department improvement or providing any type of mentorship.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in manager training and better tools
Pros
The employees at Citi are intelligent and hard working.
Cons
Managers at Citi are unable to think outside the box and take risks to propel the organization to be a leader in the consumer financial services space.
Advice to Senior Management
First, it is important to enable innovative individuals to have a voice. An innovative employee who works for a non visionary manager is bound to fail. Have your managers learn skills to tap into people's talent.
Please LISTEN to the consumer RESEARCH and don't be afraid to make the changes. It is best to lead the change than to have the government dictate what the bank needs to do.
Pros
My salary was excellent, especially considering the economic environment.
There are a number of opportunities to advance, if you keep your eyes open for them.
Management is surprisingly accommodating when it comes to taking time off.
Cons
Extremely high turnover - people can't stand the place, and quit often.
Erratic management - mistakes that should elicit a panicked response don't, and minor mistakes bring about a world-class freakout. This is a cultural thing, apparently.
Management changes strategy often. Be prepared to throw away months of work based on someone's whim.
Advice to Senior Management
Please pick a strategy and stick with it. Before you quit, please outline your strategy for the department and hand to HR. It would be fantastic if HR would hire someone who agrees with at least a small portion of the outgoing manager's vision.
Pros
large environment., user interaction, process in place, good work place, technology savy, focus group, learning potential with in the organization is good.
Cons
less recognition for the work, career advancement is very slow and too many upper management authorities to answer, un planned moves
Advice to Senior Management
employee recognition and the importance to employee loyalty and work ethics and removing of the uncertainity hanging around affects the productivity.
Pros
- Great internship during summer
- Diverse team
- Dynamic work environment
- Great weather in Florida
- Multilingual opportunities
Cons
- long hours
- ambiguous instructions from management
- sometimes language barriers are problems
- knowledge sharing can be problem
