Great international recognition but the usual workplace politics

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
London, England (UK)

I have been working at Citigroup Global Markets

ProsInternational recognition of the bank and your work
Ability to work with a high calibre of individuals
Excellent mental challenge
Department management very approachable

ConsManagement training is limited to senior management. Low-level management (i.e. team leaders) typically receive no guidance as to how to mentor their junior team members. Some individuals are very good mentors, others are awful. As a graduates therefore your career progression can be a lottery - i.e. it depends on who you get as your direct boss, and often you do not have a chance to rotate around teams.

At times there is a perception that career progression and salary increases are gained by threatening to leave rather than being loyal to the business. A classic characteristic of the financial services industry.

Senior management turnover has been to high in the past
