Pros
Great people, competitve salary, name recognition
Cons
Poor benefits, job security, corporate politics seem to loom large
Pros
It's a well known firm with multiple positions and opportunities. It provides good benefits and competitive salaries. If they ever figure out what they want to be "when they grow up"poor they might regain the respect of their employees.
Cons
Poor management skills from middle management on up. Sales programs are instituted and closed before they realistically can be evaluated. Too much time is spent on counting widgets instead of developing relationships with clients. Very poor morale among employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Find a corporate direction and stick to it. Stop hiring Mid to upper level managers on 2-3 year contracts. Stop relaunching programs that failed in prior administrations.
Pros
Global orientation is a managerial priority, and is appropriate for reaching new growth regions and sectors.
Emerging market focus is appropriate and will become even more important in the future. Inevitable re-prioritizing shifts resources and talent away from North America and Western Europe (including bonuses)
Employees have access to very good benefits package, including possibilities for global mobility.
Cons
Execution lags owing to bureaucratic legacies.
Upper management retains an investment banker culture (mentality) and has not adequately adapted to commercial banking realities and necessities. Optimizing balance sheets and revenue flows are necessary complex relationship-oriented activities, and do not conform to an "eat what you kill" management culture.
Balkanized fiefdoms continue to hinder achieving management objectives.
Antiquated technology coupled with myopic mid-management jealousies are major obstacles to Citi's needed transformation.
Advice to Senior Management
Incentives are needed to spur employee loyalty and reduce turnover of seasoned staff. With compensation packages limited by shrinking financial sector, non-pecuniary rewards (TIME) is the only tool left. Be creative in using it.
Pros
. Excellent exposure working for a truly global player
. Competitive Salaries - when markets are doing well
. Fantastic opportunities for internal mobility - regionally & internationally
Cons
. A non existent mentorship & executive development program
. Since its truly a global bank, bonuses get affected by the overall performance and senior management uses that effectively to their advantage.
. Middle management is too concerned with keeping their jobs and protecting turf.
Advice to Senior Management
. Develop a Mentorship program - for all levels
. Develop a Executive Development program
. Actively encourage and engage continuous education to develop in-house talent
Pros
Work from home, office timing
Cons
recognition, promotion, cab facility, food
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
The benefits are Citi are comparable to others in the industry. As any job, the stability is dependent on the market, but I was secure in my role in the company at the time.
Cons
Citi was hit hard, as many other banks were during the recession. As I understand it is with many trading floors, it is basically a "boys' club."
Pros
Solid, even 2008 couldnt take it down!
Cons
too big, too big! you're like a small fish in a big ocean
Advice to Senior Management
Cut the layers, we need to be lean and mean.
Pros
Large global brand with global presence
Trimmed workplace means that people have more job opportunities.
Cons
Lots of red tape makes it hard to be nimble.
IT spending was behind peers leading to slower work flow, etc.
Long hours due to less staff
Advice to Senior Management
Less levels of upper management
Form a more coherent culture as the firm seems to be an amalgamation of many different cultures from other institutions.
Pros
Teams are pleasant to work with.
Cons
efforts are not recognized and compensation is extremely low in comparison to competitors
Advice to Senior Management
treat top emnployees better
Pros
Flexible schedules
Pleasant Work Environment
Good benifits
Cons
Massive Operation that is difficult to navigate
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work
