Advice to Senior Management
a
Pros
Large scale - the most of every thing
Cons
Not good pay or benefits
Advice to Senior Management
Cut up the bank - you are too big
Pros
The pay was good
The people were nice
The hours were reasonable
There were some good places to go for lunch
Cons
Lunchtime drinking - might not sound bad but if you were there you'd know
You need to be very comfortable with bureaucracy
Nobody in my part seemed very into the job
Advice to Senior Management
Try to change the culture - no idea how you can do that.
Pros
* Great work/life balance
* Vast majority of people are friendly and willing to help
* Global firm, with regular interaction to all corners of the world
Cons
* London is no longer seen as a growth site for back office functions such as Technology, thus attrition is high and back-fill is usually elsewhere in the globe
* Poor pay compared to market rates
* Limited scope for career progression
Advice to Senior Management
Citi has many layers within the organisation. Often messages of direction and values are lost in translation between the executive leadership team in New York, and the regional management teams. When drilling into the regions, staff are not empowered to fulfil the aspirations of the firm without going back to New York for approval.
Pros
Flexible working culture
Generally Easy-going
Good Project Management Method
Competent people are allowed to do what they do best and flourish
Senior management very supportive of staff
Cons
Like other investment banks, it's controlled by regulatory requirements, thus can be stifling & frustrating. Learn to handle this and things become alot easier
Only 23 days leave
Slight culture of nepotism. People advanced on length of service rather than competence
SOX!
Advice to Senior Management
Since senior management change was as a result of major investment falings (end 2008), nothing else needs to be said about the highly publicised fall from grace of the company
Pros
Good mix of people, and good focus on the health & safety of the work place.
Cons
Fairness is not something one can expect in banking, sadly it would be the same case in Citigroup too.
Advice to Senior Management
Not making " listening to your employees" as a slogan, but really act on this.
Pros
Big company with a number of internal opportunity; also a company able to trade in large sizes and therefore with the possibility to trade any type of instrument. Mostly friendly attitude and balanced life/work environment.
Cons
A company currently in search of directions, and unclear who is steering it (whether the US government or the CEO).
A lot of red tapes and inefficient comunication between the business and the infinitely many IT (sub)systems.
Advice to Senior Management
Cut down on spin and motivation speaches and accept the difficult time the company is having.
Do something to reduce the empire building activities, expecially in IT.
Pros
Meritocratic
Performance focussed
Very international
Diverse
Employee focussed
compassionate and caring
Cons
Political
Perception driven
Very NY centric, at times overbearing American culture
currently very short term focussed
Advice to Senior Management
Empower the regions
Move the centre of gravity from America to Europe/Asia
Reduce the importance of Investment Bankers
Back to Basics - Corporate/Commercial Banking
