Pros
Great Experience in Finance. I learned a great deal about the industry. The company is well respected in the Finance Industry.
Cons
Very aggressive Culture. Associates and managers are rewarded only on financial results, not based on how they achieved the results. Therefore, ethics and doing the right thing are sometimes secondary actions..along with mutual respect. It is not a surprise that they took such a hard fall during the financial crisis. The overall business model of the company is to provide good numbers...no matter how you obtain them.
Advice to Senior Management
Do a better job of managing the culture...Change it from a dog eat dog environment to one that is about a little more healthy competition and teamwork. I guarantee you will get more results from your employees and the associate turnover won't be nearly as high.
Pros
Citigroup has a good name recognition and a rich heritage. Although a lot of that has been watered down with mergers.
Cons
The average employee at Citigroup is exactly that, "average". Because of its size, the top employees are some of the brightest i've seen. But, Citigroup also has more than its fair share of duds.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees better. you will attract and retain valuable employees and will have better performance for it. Otherwise, you'll always be bottom tier.
Pros
Opportunities to move around the company.
Cons
Always wanting to move around the company.
Pros
Work life balance
Variety of opportunities
Cons
Like any large corporation, things don't get done fast enough
Advice to Senior Management
Leaner teams and faster to market strategies
Pros
Stable, although that may not be so rue anymore.
Cons
Capped out growth in technology.
Advice to Senior Management
Let employees move around internally to prevent them from leaving.
Pros
It is a very large bank with many employers and prescence across the world. If you want acccess to people and markets, its a good place.
Cons
Becuase the bank is so large, it often takes a lot of time to make decisions. Unfortunately, the bureaucracy tends to be high.
Pros
The 'supposed' prestige...and that's it. The firm does have a long storied history, but those days are long behind it.
Cons
The new investment platform that CPWM adopted from Pershing earlier this in Feb 2011 has been a resounding disaster. This is a company that waited until the last minute to choose a new vendor for it's investment platform, and upon finally choosing Pershing, rushed the poorly designed system to the field. The rest is a historical embarassment.
Advice to Senior Management
The best advice to senior mangement would be to listen to the employees. The mere fact that the firm experienced a mass exodus of Financial Advisors in 2008-2009-2010, and the threat of even more defections with the new poorly designed investment platform, should be evidence enough thaty senior management need to pay attention to what the employees are really thinking.
Pros
Learn something new everytime you get work, get knowledge from the vast diversified people you come across.
Cons
No talent recognition
Salary very low as compared to Market
You will often see people leaving once they have experience
Work not appreciated
Advice to Senior Management
Look at the soldiers below you who fight for you, If you do not appreciate some of the nice talent this company holds, you will lose it
Pros
Salary
Hours
Ability to Work From Home
Cons
Incompetent Senior Management
Lack of communication amongst team members
Advice to Senior Management
Promotion should be based on knowledge not who you know.
Pros
They pay for performance
Flexible work options (work from home) and emphasis on work life balance
Vast networking opportunities and many game-changers/players
Cons
Like most major companies, it's bureaucratic
Not thriving in the financial services world
Limited exposure if you are not in New York
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on ensuring top talent is happy more so than everyone, there is a reason for the pay for performance policy, because if you focus too much on making everyone happy, then you risk losing out on quality talent.
