Pros
Good MA program which is well organized
Cons
Several lay-offs during the government bail-out program
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
You can get paid decent money to work very little because there is so much redundancy in the organization.
Cons
You can get paid decent money to work very little because there is so much redundancy in the organization. My brain atrophied and I had to leave.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus more on smart cost cutting.
Pros
Decent salary as fair market pay goes.
Cons
No fairness for time off for extra hours worked. No quality time for family life. They made billions in profits in 2010, but instead of giving a bonus or raise, they tried to have a company mandatory forum to ask people how they felt. During the meeting when an employee tried to voice that concern, they tried to twist the words that the company had awards to recognized individuals and gave compensation. We NEVER heard of such programs. Maybe they do exist at the executive level? I guess that would make sense.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more people. It is not healthy to have employees work nearly 70hrs a week.
Pros
Country club setting, short commute to New Jersey folks.
Cons
low compensation, long hour, heavy load
Advice to Senior Management
reduce the paperwork, increase efficiency
Pros
Several hardworking, competent people there
Cons
A lot of layers of bureaucracy
Advice to Senior Management
Offer better incentives
Pros
Good name on resume
International presence- opportunities to work oversees
Potential for advancement
Cons
Management
A lot of red tape
Advice to Senior Management
Where do you find your managers at ABC University?
Pros
Great if you are a low level employee as you'll get good exposure
Cons
Very difficult If you are looking to establish your career and advance up. Too much politics and its all about who you know
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate more frequently.
Pros
Big, there are some internal opportunities.
Cons
Congrats if you have a good manager.
Advice to Senior Management
Train managers to be a manager, especially those inexperienced. Some of them are inhibitors rather than motivators.
Pros
If you are interested in global companies, Citi is very global and there are many jobs where you will have the opportunity to interact with colleagues overseas. And the people are by and large quite smart.
Cons
Senior management (as of 2009, at any rate) were a bunch of chickens. When there were headcount reductions, it was never the most senior executives, it was always a few levels below. That way they didn't have to face the pain of firing someone they know, they just made their underlings do it. And they didn't have much rhyme or reason to the cut backs. They would also fund departments without requiring other groups to work with them. If the other groups decided not to, then the newly funded group was out in the cold - but management didn't care if their investment was wasted. Again, they lacked the courage, foresight and vision to be forceful about driving change. No wonder Citi is mired in craziness!
Advice to Senior Management
Senior execs need to walk the talk and enforce their strategies through words AND actions. They need to reinforce their strategies constantly or no one will take them seriously. That's partly why they have had such a hard time recovering from the banking debacle.
Pros
Incredible opportunity to contribute to significant paradigm shifts in a financial services giant, if you can survive the bureaucratic nonsense and the fundamentally superficial barriers inherent to the organizational hierarchy.
Cons
In the conflict between build the bank and run the bank, which should really be no conflict at all, thought leadership on running the bank often stands in peril of taking a back seat.
Advice to Senior Management
You have some incredibly valuable talent in your numbers, and with the proper dedication to nurturing the fullest growth of your rank-and-file today, you stand a great chance of securing a brighter tomorrow.
