    Pros

The company has a good culture and I'm very satisfied with the work/life balance. It's exciting to be a part of a company in growth mode; expanding the footprint.

    Cons

The company is so focused on cutting costs and managing expenses due to the IPO that they risk losing the key people. Benefits have been cut across the board, some without any notice to employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Identify the key people in your groups and reward them.

I worked at Citizens Financial Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of locations and hours are flexible. Lots of PTO vacation time given.

    Cons

Expected to hit numbers while ALWAYS working understaffed. Favortism is rampant among management--do not expect equal treatment. Customer service is #1 focus on paper but you are expected to sell at every interaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees like human and not machines. Equal treatment of all employees and not just friends. Service and dedication needs to mean something beyond bottom line numbers.

I have been working at Citizens Financial Group

    Pros

    PTO time, holidays, flexible schedule

    Cons

Management only cares about your sales numbers. They really do not care about the customers, they just want you to sell everything you can to them. The company is going backwards instead of forward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people who know finances instead of just salespeople.

I worked at Citizens Financial Group as a contractor

    Pros

Many good employees and managers, benefits are on par with industry, training is provided. Citizens has been through changes, overall has come out the better for them.

Work-life balance is a strong company value. I experienced a fair, tolerant, and non-discriminatory work environment. Access to training is above average for the area and industry.

    Cons

Location (Rhode Island), possible issue for new hires not familiar with the area, local cost of living, safety.

CFG can be grueling for new employees to navigate (literally), more difficult if you do not have prior experience in large corporate/financial entities. Office culture is unusual, and varies greatly by job function. Some teams are great, others toxic. Complex internal politics and resulting risk-aversion in middle-management produces a minefield of a complex corporate work environment where one can easily say the wrong thing to the wrong person, accidentally.

The facility itself ? odd, slightly dated. The campus houses pockets of old school private offices mixed in with cube farms and open concept areas, you spend your first week just learning to navigate the building, and months before you pick up on the acronyms and shortcuts, longer yet for familiarity with processes for every job function.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While the company has come a long way, significant work remains on office politics and a culture overly focused on preventing any exposure to risk, engendering an unspoken rule, when in doubt, inaction is the safest course (not always a bad culture for a bank, this attitude can be taken to extremes).

I worked at Citizens Financial Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The pay scale wasn't bad for a " teller" position. Paid well for off site training which included hourly wage plus mileage for time to and from the site.

    Cons

Not enough staff to focus on sales so quarterly bonuses were very hard to hit. Commission based position so anyone with seniority takes offense to new person getting sales. Employee with seniority was allowed to verbally harass co-workers including management and management said to just "ignore" the abuse. Manager rarely assigned primary and secondary teller and banker positions so there was always a struggle to get off line work done while standing at the teller post. We were taught correct policies and procedures in training classes but were encouraged to "bend" the rules to get through the transaction quicker.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make all managers follow the rules that their employees are taught in classes and allow enough time for each transaction to be done properly. Hands on training with manager shadowing would have helped but there was never enough staff available. As a result a new banker looks to be incompetent to regular customers who expect them to be as quick as the seasoned employees. Staff the in-store locations with enough employees so that there is enough time for each banker to focus on sales and follow ups. There is a system in place called the daily Morning Huddle which when used could have positive results regarding team work. It was to address and discuss a plan for resolving the previous day's issues and a plan of how to increase sales. My store had maybe 3 or 4 "Morning Huddles" in an entire year. Maybe more focus should be on following the company processes rather than nit-picking the employee.
