Pros
Work life balance, compensation, people
Cons
Infighting between management counter productive to growth of company
Advice to Senior Management
Get together for the common vision of the company and and drive initiativeswith a top down approach ... not the weeds. Will be a lot more productive
Pros
Great pay, nice quarterly bonuses for sr. level individual contributors and above, superb executive team.
Cons
Middle management has improved but is still mostly technically incompetent and lacks accountability. There is still a strong push to use outsourcing in India/China even though most efforts have not proven successful and costs to do so are likely increasing. Promotions are still scarce but raises have returned to somewhat normal in the past couple of years. The review system does not reward top performers enough and does not hold completely incompetent/lazy contributors accountable.
Advice to Senior Management
There has been a strong push towards culture change lately in regards to innovation, design, and scalability. If this goal is truly desirable, then change needs to happen. The correct behavior that is needed for this change is being punished rather than rewarded and the opposite is true for people that are sticking with the status quo.
Look out for your top performers leaving Fort Lauderdale in the next few years. The bad housing market that kept many from leaving are no longer waiting patiently for the market to return. Many are realizing that the housing market is not coming back anytime soon and are considering foreclosing or doing a short sale. These people are not likely moving to another Citrix location..
Pros
Flexible work hours. Supervisors do not micromanage you, and you can even come in late if you have to. Ability to bring your own computer to work.
Cons
Very little chance for advancement unless someone is fired or resigns.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve communication and direction to employees
Pros
Org Culture is really great!
Cons
Performance appreciation process needs to be reviseted
Advice to Senior Management
Little people makes the base of the company
Pros
Growing company with great technologies and growth prospects
Cons
They are too worried about the bottom line.
Pros
Decent salary
Flexible work schedule with telecommuting for some departments
Great IT solutions
Highly recognized area employer
Executive management is genuine
Cons
EXTREMELY political work environment
Americas Sales Management .... No better example of cronyism. These guys should thank a good product for the companies advancement because it's not what they are doing that keeps the company going.
Unless you're a Senior Manager, Director, or higher, don't count on a substantial raise.
Once lauded benefits package now concentrated to Director level or above (no more stock options)
Advice to Senior Management
Loved it P.I. (Pre-Innovex)
Pros
Great team work. Frontline management is very strong. .
Cons
Sr leadership at dept and division level still stick to the circle of trust for promotions
Advice to Senior Management
Ensure you are acknowledging the contribulations of high performing managers and teams.
Pros
You work hard and are rewarded and recognized for it.
Cons
It can be competitive as technology is constantly evolving.
Pros
Overall the benefits package is good. Felt very welcomed during the interview process. The company has some very good products, esp. the online division.
Cons
In general there appears to be a big gap between the rank and file, and middle management. There appears to be two sets of rules (one for managers and the other for everyone else). Unless you belong to the special clique don't expect your career to advance. The company has grown very quickly over the last few years and there are people that have no reason being managers. They were good do'ers but terrible managers. Just because they are a good do'er and there for a long time, is no reason to promote someone to fill an open managers spot. Also there are too many people with Director and Manager titles that do not manage anyone.
Advice to Senior Management
The career pathing has started but still has a long way to go. Take a hard look at middle management and do some house cleaning. Morale, Morale, Morale
Pros
Unbelievable benefits, very fair compensation and promotion opportunities, career advancement opportunities are there of course but you must stick out. Citrix doesn't reward mediocrity.
Cons
Well unfortunately there was a 10 percent reduction in the workforce due to the recession.. Never pleasant but that happened in lots of corporations. I'd say another negative is perhaps a slightly lacking channel of communication between engineering, documentation, QA, sales.. etc.
Advice to Senior Management
I thought the leadership at Citrix Systems was solid, but I think that Citrix - just like any other company - suffered from unqualified people receiving undue promotions instead of always promoting top performers into management roles. Just my .02.
