I have been working at Citrix Systems

    Pros

It's a super relaxed atmosphere, a la Silicon Valley. You can wear jeans and work anywhere in three buildings, even at the café if you want.

    Cons

It can be demanding at times if you're an employee as opposed to a contractor.

    I worked at Citrix Systems

    Pros

Good people, good environment for creating new technologies. Industry leader who never has to play catchup.

    Cons

After only 4 months into the job, the company was reorganized according to business needs and as a result I was let go along with 200 other people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a better medium term vision to avoid hiring people only to can them soon after. This is a lose lose situation for company and employee.

Working as a summer intern the experience was extremely helpful in learning sales training and cold calling.

I worked at Citrix Systems as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The atmosphere was very relaxed but when the time came everyone knew they needed to get down to business. Games around the office including ping-ping, pool, xbox, corn hole, etc. kept the mood very light and productive at the same time.

    Cons

During the time I was there the company was transitioning to another building which made the place I worked out of a little cramped and they moved the interns around to make sure everyone had desks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everyone was super approachable from the lowest managers all the way up the chain. I enjoyed working with them and mostly all of the managers treated the interns with respect with one manager in particular who did not and who would whistle and snap and clap at interns as if we were pets, which I found to be unprofessional and demeaning of course.

    Pros

Good compensation, much to learn. Depending on your manager, you have the ability to move up, opportunities to develop yourself and flexibility to work from anywhere.

    Cons

Unfortunately, some bad apples are stifling. Sad to see those are permitted to thrive now. Company has exploded and not been able to properly handle the growth as key leadership has gone downhill. Over 20 mil for a new office with a living garden and then layoffs a few month later? Definitely all about the numbers now, especially since the flaws have been exposed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You trimmed the wrong fat. Reward loyalty and listen to your employees. Treat them with respect and rid yourself of arrogant leadership only looking to beef up their bank account and LinkedIn profile. Stop outsourcing. Quality over quantity, your customers are paying attention and your competitors are licking their chops.

    Pros

Good leadership, the benefits are very competitive as well as the salary. The company culture is very enjoyable and the collaboration is outstanding.

    Cons

It can be difficult to move up in the organization if you don't put yourself out there. This can happen with any company but your manager isn't going to automatically give you opportunities, you have to search for them yourself and prove your worth.

I have been working at Citrix Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Standard Silicon Valley large tech company. Don't believe the Citrite propaganda about it being a different place to work.

    Cons

Constant re-organizations and layoffs. Horrible management that changes strategy by the month.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Believe in the vision of your products and in being able to work from anywhere. You have a ton of talented workers who could work almost anywhere but stay at Citrix because of being able to work remotely. Lately, for some reason management has decided that full time remote work is not possible and is trying to force remote workers into the offices. How can the company fill its management team with Luddites who believe that people need to sit next to each other to be creative or to get work done? It is a sign of a poor manager who believes that they need to see their employees sitting in an office to be able to manage them effectively.

One senior engineering VP recently berated remote workers implying that they were somehow less effective and possibly slacking off, while also stating that it wasn't fair that some remote workers lived in states where they could have bigger houses and cheaper rent. How can you fill your management team with leaders who have such a lack of vision. Why aren't you celebrating your remote workers and learning from them to make our products better rather than berating them every chance you get and trying to force them into a cubicle in an office?

The current Feb. 2015 layoffs were handled in the worst way I've ever seen for a layoff. Making everyone sweat out a week of uncertainty created a totally unproductive week of work across the entire company. We have so much work to do and so little time that to waste a week like this is really disappointing. To make everyone suffer through this week was also unkind to your employees.

    Pros

Great people, great product, great pay and benefits

    Cons

Citrix needs to get back its execution mojo. Although products are superior we are losing market share to competitors. A lot of the issues are due to a subculture of middle management protecting its turf and not doing what is best for the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on execution and weed out individuals and layers that do not focus on the greater Citrix good.
