I worked at Citrus Memorial Hospital full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fellow nurses, for the most part, were awesome! It was the best part of working there. Nurse to patient ratio 6:1. Acuity was not factored into patient load.

    Cons

Management. Pay. Always seemed to be short staffed. CNA's were usually left with half the floor (20 pts) and nurses with their full loads would have to pick up the slack. Left for unsafe conditions for the patients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat you people with respect! Be fair, do not play favorites, give timely evaluations, always do exit interviews so that you might learn how to improve your management techniques to increase overall employee satisfaction and retention.

I worked at Citrus Memorial Hospital full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Co-workers were great, and the pay scale was good for the area. The time-off and insurance benefits were excellent.

    Cons

There was little or no opportunity for advancement. Upper management had unrealistic expectations and did not have experience in doing our job. It was not necessarily what you know but who you know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please go to the people who do the job and ask for their input before putting unrealistic expectations on them. Good employees really do care about where they work, so please treat them with appreciation.

I have been working at Citrus Memorial Hospital

    Pros

Fellow employees and great people who care about patients. Most of the employees are respectful of each other and in most cases put the patients as a top priority.

    Cons

It is overwhelming at times with the limitations on resources. Sometimes the pressure is very high to work faster and management doesn't realize that it could open us up for mistakes that could effect patient care. Much of oue equipment is 10+ years old and it is hard to get it replaced with newer and more modern equipment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should more proactive instead of reactive when it comes to technology. Many of the decisions made are made by people who have no idea what is necessary to do a good job with quality being a priority. It feels sometimes like money is the most important thing when it should be patient care.

I have been working at Citrus Memorial Hospital

    Pros

Great benefits package and time off.

    Cons

Management is adverse to change. Very narrow-minded when it comes to new, challenging ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take suggestions and ideas from your mid- and low- level staff. Don't assume you know everything.

I have been working at Citrus Memorial Hospital full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good benefits (especially PDO's) for employees who stick around long enough. Health insurance program is great. Ironically, there is a strong sense of community among the different disciplines... sort of a war-buddy effect; if we can survive this, we can survive anything!

    Cons

Sticking around long enough to get treated as something other than a doormat is challenging. New hires either get run over and trampled by the veterans or become just as tough and burly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create an orientation process that will build a foundation for what your new employee can expect (not dread). Build up weaknesses, highlight strengths, encourage ambition to continue education/training. Don't throw your employees to the wolves or they'll be gobbled up before you have a chance to realize just how much they're struggling.

I worked at Citrus Memorial Hospital

    Pros

They have a very competent rehab team and I enjoyed working with them.

    Cons

Poor treatment of employees with legitimate illness.
They don't follow their own policy and procedures very well.
Poor coverage for employees when they are ill.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start caring a little more about your employees and a little less about how much money is going in your own wallet.
