    work-life balance, can work and learn, nature of work topical and current, latest technologies, niches of smart staff, location, private health

    no ethos, no accountability, extremely bureaucratic, outmoded practices, unproductive politics, brain drain, provincial, boorish incumbents in quarters

    huge amount of upside. terrific opportunity to modernise. perfect assignment for turnaround specialists. outsource an independent efficiency exercise by external industry experts. bring in fresh personnel reflective of the free market, international economy

    Pros

    Fun, challenging environment, with varied day-to-day work.
    Verbal recognition of good performance (see cons for other forms of recognition)
    Surrounded by many good, hard working colleagues

    Cons

    Lack of financial (or otherwise) recognition for good performance
    Too quick to remove good staff for minor infringements (management don't see the bigger picture)
    "Cliquey" - a feeling that you have to be "one of the lads" to progress
    Politics
    Bureaucracy.

    Pros

    work life balance, busy periods are fun, work can be topical and current, benefits such as private health and gym membership, HQ situated in nice premises, small niches of talented personnel

    Cons

    no ethos, no accountability, chavvy, a lot of spin and politics, rampant cronyism, boorish managers, provincial and parochial

    company has a tremendous amount of potential. requires downsizing with an overhaul of the old and negative incumbents. empires need syringing. needs to reflect the modern and international global economy

    good place to start your career in financial services, don't overstay

    Pros

    best place for graduates and IT people (you will be very employable afterwards)
    good work/life balance
    flexible with inter-department changes - if you really want it, you will get it
    not stressful
    good benefits (gym of your choice, pension and private healthcare
    most of the people I knew who left, went to better jobs and big brands

    Cons

    most of the people in the company just take it easy
    very political
    no sense of direction coming from management
    never disclose financials to employees (you only hear gossip about profits and losses)
    very short-term thinking
    good people are leaving quickly
    don't overstay otherwise you will get stuck in the spread betting industry

    Pros

    Lots of friendly people. Good life work balance.

    Cons

    Very political. Slow to get things done. Constant changing of minds about what needs to become often makes it difficult to progress. Many changes to staff. Lots of over paid individuals.

    Get focused, act like you care, be seen more in the business and don't think you know what's going on from the same people that have their own interests at heart.

    A lot of changes in the company. Two continious years of negative revenue.

    Pros

    Nice location, had to work with various departments and could learn a lot about trading and IT, some competent people and nice Christmas parties.

    Cons

    Management changes all the time, people get hired and layed off all the time. There is no sense of direction. Pay doesn't correspond with your performance.

    Would be nice if they cared more about their employees.
