I worked at City National Bank full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

People at the lower levels are great, hardworking and pleasurable to work with. If you are lucky to be in a team with a good manager (very few), you will love it. Can switch departments but it will take a long time and typically only a lateral move. 8- 5 schedule, observe all holidays.

    Cons

No recognition for quality employees. Managers with poor management skills and high sense of entitlement. Some departments have unqualified individuals simply because of who they know or are related to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more training and encourage employees to take advantage of it. Improve performance reviews to actually review and provide constructive feedback. Establish a rotational program or have something that allows for career development.

I have been working at City National Bank full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Somewhat high paystub
    Not much to do
    Down town

    Cons

Beware IT managers are disgruntled, not educated well, use of some technology maintenance is limited to getting free advise when they do interviews with candidates hoping to help them to get a job, for example share point job been advertised for more than year !
no parking and they expect you to park in 5 miles and take a bus !
    No training compensation
    Forget being sent to seminars
Horrible clothing regulations , double standard

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Read your internal managers linked in! They are advertising their own company first ,seems you don't pay them enough

I worked at City National Bank full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There is very low turnover in most departments. Your co-workers can become a second family. There is excellent work/life balance. People often stay in their positions for their entire career and on the whole are very loyal to the bank.

    Cons

People who perform exceedingly well find it difficult to advance to another position. There is surprisingly bad behavior tolerated by some senior managers. The bank is still run as if it were a small community bank. As most managers have been there for ten to twenty years, they do not seem to know how to take the bank to the next level.

I have been working at City National Bank

    Pros

Professional environment with experienced colleagues. Low turnover in most departments. Good benefits with profit sharing in 401k. Good work life balance. Focus on client service.

    Cons

Not a lot of space for career advancement. If you get hired into a department, then limited ability to move unless you have an advocate in another department. Discuss developing colleagues, but focus is to hire outside to fill positions.

    Pros

    Slow work pace.
I don't think this is pros to me but for someone it might.

    Cons

None really shares vital information with peer. For a single question, you may have to wait for a week then you ended up to sending a email to your manager and cc the peer has been avoiding sharing information. Then you got the information in 5 sec.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promotion is based on favoritism not based on talent. I saw many good talent left the bank because of this.

    Pros

Depending on the dept. and manager, they do not micro-manage and they are willing to work with your requests and work related needs.

    Cons

Too much office politics and hard to move up the ladder, ironically.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more time and understand the lower ranking titles and promote base on merit more often.
