    Pros

    - Mostly laid-back atmosphere.
    - In-services are, for the most part, somewhat fun.
    - Mostly young, energetic group of people.

    Cons

    - Sometimes big events are bit unorganized.
    - Problems with facilities occasionally take too long to get fixed.

    Politics played outside the unit at higher up levels - it WAS an appointed position after-all - and I don't play games

    -Access to police officer gym?
    -Across the street from the marina and Whataburger?

    Cons

    -Inefficient software that makes the job more difficult
    -Embarrassingly underpaid
    -Poor communication
    -Interdepartmental warfare and lack of cooperation
    -Significant amount of work that requires an increase in staff yet no staff is hired
    -No room to grow and advance
    -Pettiness runs rampant in supervisors
    -Outdated and unmaintained building
    -Lack of incentives for superior performance
    -No freedom to input helpful ideas or contribute a different way of thinking

    I have been working at City Of Corpus Christi full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    There is very few Pros. Well you get paid on time, They will train you to get a CDL which you can then go drive for the oil field.

    Cons

    Having to work a second job to make ends meet. Pay is very low. Pay increase does not happen every year. No chance of advancement unless someone retires. There is employee harassment is on going, and if reported, the personnel at the Human Resource department will not do anything to protect the employee, so the harassment continues,and supervisors look the other way. Drug use is rampant, despite drug testing. Gambling and football betting is every where during working hours. Cell phones use is constant a violation against city policy. Employees working in the labs without any Texas State Waste Water license or drivers license.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take the time to listen to the younger employees and incorporate new ideas. Stop beating down new ideas. Work towards new solutions, rather than just keep operating with out change, because the old ways are not always the most efficient way of achieving maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort or expense.

    I worked for the aquatics department and every summer it would become a close family.

    Hard to get some things done sometimes due to the way the city government operates.

    The pay wasnt very much, but the budget for our department wasnt very big.

    You work with some of the best people in the City as coworkers and deliver service to the best people anywhere.

    There is not always clear direction on the long term objectives or goals,it is year to year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Share the story of where we are going and how we get there with everyone. Don't assume if you tell your subordinates they tell theirs. A clear message is not being delivered.

    You get free donuts at the monthly safety meeting

    Cons

    Pay is so low that I have to work two jobs just to get by. About 75 hours a week, and I have a Texas licensed in waste water. Also the buddy promotion system is in full effect here, so hard work won't get you a pay raise, but being a supervisors buddy will.

    I would like to see the management live on my pay.

    Pros

    Decent pay for the work considering you didn't need a degree and I had one I would say that the pay is worth the duty. Working with the kids makes the time fly by. Great opportunities for advancement. Wish I could've stayed longer.

    Cons

    A little more leniency with being able to sit down and interact with the children would've been nice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If someone has a grade that gets out earlier than the time you are supposed to get to work let them get there on time so the kids have consistency and the site leader can focus on what he/she is supposed to be doing.

    Encourage employees to continue their education. Not only will their specific departments benefit, but the city as a whole will as well. Tuition assistance program would be very beneficial.
