    Pros

The city offers excellent benefits with great rates. It is also nice that you are guareteed a raise yearly for the first seven years you are in a position. Time Bank is also a great asset because you do not need to worry about missing pay if you have an unexpected illness or surgery

    Cons

No room for advancement. Many of departments within the city offer little room for advancement. There are few managment level jobs and a large number of employees are stuck in the same position for their entire career.

    Pros

The training opportunities are many and persons are encouraged to take advantage of those opportunities. The community is large enough to work with a variety of situations but small enough to be manageable and see results. The Benefits package is outstanding, making up for the salary.

    Cons

The political environment is hostile, politicians allow personal feelings to dictate strategy. The mantra of doing more work with less people has become the accepted norm. Moral could be much better.

    Advice to Management

Your employees ARE affected by the infighting and bickering at the political level. Unfortunately, this is ESPECIALLY true in an election year where ballots are more important than providing realistic solutions.

    Pros

Working the events put on the Recreation Department is exciting because you meet so many people and have different experiences. The work schedule is pretty lax and will vary depending on what time of the year it is.

    Cons

Getting a job for the City of Akron is easy meaning pretty much anybody can get their foot in the door. A lot of uneducated or clueless people will be around you. The job advancement is slim to none. There is a lot of drama that goes on in the Recreation Department created by "senior staff" employees that is overlooked and it creates a hostile environment.

    Advice to Management

Ask for opinions by all the employees from coordinators to seasonals.

    Pros

Interacting with people from all aspects of life and protecting the public from harm. The feeling of gratification after solving a crime or finding the suspect of a crime

    Cons

Dealing with the emotional aftermath of violent criminal behavior, accepting the worse of the worse when it pertains to criminals, also there is a political aspect to being a police officer and sometimes it comes before serving the public's best interest.

    Advice to Management

Maintain a healthy work-life balance, in law enforcement this may be an obstacle due to work elated stress. Time off is never static, you can be called in to cover a low manpower shift.
