    Pros

They are truly engaged in ensuring the mission and vision will provide a responsible benefit to the employees but especially the residents of the city.

    Cons

The constraints of working for a government employer in contrast to working in the private sector require an adjustment in the employees perspective and expectations.

    Advice to Management

Continue with the supportive environment that left me with a wonderful experience and maintain and even increase the communication with the employees so they are more aware of the challenges faced by the City.

  2. Reasonable when you consider the current economic situation

    Pros

The pay scale is reasonable. When dealing with a personal issue the management is very understanding. There's a formal effort to build employee morale. The facilities are modern and the IT staff does a good job of providing appropriate tools and support.

    Cons

The City of Avondale has suffered from the economic downturn and this has forced them to severely reduce the workforce. The immediate future is not bright in regard to growth. Project management from management and progress reporting is mostly by 'word of mouth'. Management does not utilize the currently acceptable personnel performance objective establishment and review methods.

    Advice to Management

Since the staff has been reduced, the management must focus on working more efficiently. Initiating project management processes which are accessible to all and where milestones missed are not surprises but are known in advance. Establishing performance objectives is critical to demonstrating respect to employees as they are aware of the responsibilities and metrics that are reviewed and graded.
