    Pros

I loved the people. My boss was a great guy who really took me under his wing to show me as much as possible. I learned a lot and I am very glad I was able to work there.

    Cons

None really, they are great people that work in a very low stress environment. Sometimes the projects become somewhat monotonous but other than that it is hard to complain about.

  2. An acceptable job with decent pay and benefits.

    Pros

Flexibility, work-life balance, pay is competitive for the area, benefits are decent, variety of work, promotes from within when there's an opening.

    Cons

Communication is lacking between departments and within departments, software is old and the process to get new is extensive making employees be overworked, training could be improved.

    Advice to Management

Show appreciation to employees a little more. Even though it's government and you're limited, do what you can. the "gift card" program has yet to really make employees feel valued.

    Pros

You can feel comfortable that you will have a position even in rough economy. The nature of the work ensures that the city will always need services.

    Cons

The City as an employer does not reward employees for hard work. Everyone gets the same raise.... even if you do the least amount to get by or go above and beyond the reward is the same. Also there is no recognition for years of service.

    Advice to Management

Show your employees that you care with a raise. Also stop spending so much money on surveys, instead trust the recommendations of your supervisors instead of hiring outside consultants to tell you what to do with your workers

    Pros

There is a lot of job security involved here, since like any government job is more secure than private enterprise. The pay is on the high end of low for any profession, which is better than unemployed. The benefits for the area are not bad and the city still has a pension.

    Cons

Raises are few and far between, when they come; performance is not taken in account. So you will see the person that barely does their job get the same raise as someone who busts their butt. The majority of upper management think they are better than the rank in file. Promotions are given out according to seniority or favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Replace City Manager Matthes and bring in someone who has run a business, rather than a life long bureaucrat.

  6. Constant restructuring leads to mostly unstable work environments.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

    -Stable income
    -low expectations
-benefits are okay if you are single (if married with children you will pay through the nose)

    Cons

Little to no upward mobility (unless you are part of the good ole boy network)
poor pay raises, next to no chance to reach the top of your pay grade

    Advice to Management

Consistency in all actions would be nice. Close loopholes that allow individual managers to make up rules. Hold management to higher standards, rather than just try to fill positions.
