    A learning and growth experience

    Anonymous (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsThe benefits; the work schedule; the community involvement; colleagues; good work life balance; some managers allow you some flexibility to implement projects that will support the community

ConsSalary; little opportunity for growth; some areas afraid of growth or change; no bonuses; departments seem to work independently

Advice to Senior ManagementSupport your staff and consider bonuses outside of merit raises for extra effort

    Overall good place to intern

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsVery accomodating. Great place to learn about public policy and government affairs. Great place to network.

ConsUnpaid internships. Lack of real integration of interns into the work of the office.

Advice to Senior ManagementInterns are here to learn but they can also make a valuable contribution. Keeping interns on the side-line makes learning opportunities somewhat limited and prevents them from contributing as much as they could. Maybe paying interns would be a good incentive for both managers to involve interns more and interns to stay implicated.

    Administrative for IAH

    Administrative Specialist (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsBenefits if you are looking for that. If you are close to the IAH management team it will be pleasurable for you.

ConsBullying, harassment, prejudice, unfair practices. Management is very disorganized and favors some employees over others. Would not recommend IAH as a place of employment for anyone. No recognition to those who deserve it.

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize those who deserve it. Stop being unfair.

    Hostile work environment

    (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsCoworkers, pay and benefits, vacation and holidays

ConsDrama, bullying, gossip, overt and covert nepotism, unfairness, pettiness, extremely stressful, low morale, incompetent management, lack of character and integrity across the board

Advice to Senior ManagementAppreciate your core group. Those are the workers that make your organization successful. They're loyal, devoted, and grind every day with little or no complaint, regardless of their own personal circumstances. They are an asset to your organization, no matter how hard your managers/supervisors/nepotist employees try and make them believe otherwise. I've seen a lot of great people leave because of that. It's a shame, really. This organization really has the potential to be listed as one of the greatest places in the country to work, but the rampant cruelty, unnecessarily competitive atmosphere, hyper-stressful and unsupportive environment makes the organization hostile.
