Advice to Senior Management
Need leadership team to be clear on the long-term goals.
Pros
I love the learning and development plan. You are able to go back to school and they pay the tuition. This can be in line with your current job or any current positon within the city.
Cons
not enough employee recognition. Mangement need to have more employee engagement initiatives.
Advice to Senior Management
stop with the do as I say, not as I do attitude.
Pros
Excellent work-life balance, very good wage, treated well for working hard, unlimited opportunities to do more work and learn, information is communicated freely, one of the best government or municipalities you can work for.
Cons
Lack of leadership and accountability skills throughout the entire organization, departmental silos, deadlines are flexible which means extensions are common, high performers will find little cross-learning potential from senior management and management
Advice to Senior Management
The best way to develop leadership and accountability is to make Commissioners, Directors, Managers and everyone accountable for their actions. This means you need 1 person responsible, a real target or level of achievement expected and a real consequence of failure. The exact opposite of this is a committee that has goals and timelines that change based on the most recent updates and circumstances and everyone gets a raise no matter how ineffective the exercise. It should be expected to see around 2 to 5% of employees receive no wage increases due to ineffective task completion.
