Pros – You increase your time managment, communication skills and develop a very strong work ethic. Team meeting and staff development/ coaching sessions are very productive, as you really do learn a lot. Staff is always encouraged to do their best and provided with the necessary tools to reach agency standards.
Cons – You must pass a civil service examination and be pulled off of the list to be considered for employment or you will get bumpted/layed off or worse, demoted.

Pros – - Flexible Schedule for Interns
-Friendly Staff
- Very helpful insight in the Legal industry
- Computers were relatively useful
Cons – -No pay for interns (which isn't always bad)
- Some of the staff aren't as friendly as the others
-
Advice to Senior Management – Try to pay the interns. Although the budget may be restricted, It would be helpful to try to pay the interns, they do a lot of the grunt work that the attorneys don't want to do.

Pros – Hands down, best benefits package around. Salary for a CS is comparable when you take into account the benefits package.
Cons – Most people are complacent in their positions and waiting for retirement. Unfortunately hard work is not often recognized and increases are only what the union negotiates every few years. Bureaucracy slows things down to a crawl.
Advice to Senior Management – Unfortunately the Union benefits do not allow management much leeway. Management should use innovative ways to compensate exemplary employees. Recognition past PAI awards would go a long way.

Pros – Organization is large so small improvements can have big impacts; work life balance is good;
Cons – Old fashioned, low tech bureaucratic organization; Some staff are great but there are so many low performing staff that have been there for years;
Advice to Senior Management – Use techology more and communicate with staff at all levels regularly; develop junior and midlevel staff by creating very structured training programs

Former Employee – worked at City of New York
Pros – The benefits are very good and the opportunities for professional training are unlimited. They have some very smart IT professionals who would not hesitate to share their expertise with others.
Cons – The salary can be sometimes less than the salaries in the private sector. Sometimes, bureaucarcy can stand in the way of swift promotion opportunities.
Advice to Senior Management – They could be doing a better job if they reduce the level of bureaucracy that involves in making routine decisions.

Pros – Best Penson and Medical Plans.Work Environment depends upon your ability to perform lot of chances given by higher managment to you if you dont perform no problem we will higher some useless consultant.Flex Hours.
Cons – Commute if you are traveling from LI or NJ.Employees not recognized easily. Very laid back atmosphere not enough prospect for growth. It takes a effort for things to get done in the organization.Work would be only done quickly if you have good relationship with collegues.
People sleep at work.
Advice to Senior Management – Lot many silo applications which are doing same tasks but managment hardly care they hire more consultants which just relax in this atmosphere.No proper oversight. Few executive have retired recently but the ones hired have no idea about latest technology they are more content in being custodian of application in comparison to provide better service to end client agencies.

Current Employee – been working at City of New York
Pros – The positions are secure, the health benefits are guaranteed, the co-workers are very down-to-earth, and the hours are flexible. It is a great starting point
Cons – There is no wiggle room for upward movement. The positions given are very limiting. The only way to truly get ahead is to look for opportunities that may or may not suit your career needs. It's a great place for an occupation, but not so much for a career.
Advice to Senior Management – If possible, please create more positions for people of all disciplines within your department. Also, please provide more wiggle room for advancement, instead of just the standard procedures.

Pros – Interacting with your peers and sharing techniques. Monitoring the growth of your charges, the role models they become and special projects they are selected to participate in. As well the opportunity professional advancement.
Cons – Due to budget constraints, we are all expected to do more with less . It is harderst on ccr's because service level predictions determain how many of them can take off on any given day. If you arrive one minute or more late, this includes from breaks or lunch, a written reprimand will be issued.
Advice to Senior Management – The inception of 311 staff survey is an excellent tool to find out how staff feel. Continue to use it and learn from it.

Former Employee – worked at City of New York
Pros – Most people are friendly. Would be a great place to work later in career life. Good for a second or third career to finish off and retire.
Cons – Too much politics goes on and not enough appreciation. Seems like everyone is for themselves. If starting off in a career, might not be a place to start.
