I have been working at City of New York full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are great...after 5 years, you get 4 weeks of vacation.
It is possible to move from one city agency to another without losing any of your benefits (e.g., vacation, sick leave, pension, etc.)
If you retire out the of the City, you get free medical for the rest of your life.

    Cons

The salary is not great unless you are in a management position. In Social Services part of City of New York, only females are promoted. Men are overlooked even if they are more talented and have more experience than the women.
Management wants to make the data say what they are thinking.
Female supervisors tend to be insecure and need constant reassurance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire qualified people. Stop the nepotism. Female supervisors need to be secure in their position and not view every man as a threat.
