    Pros

    -Very diverse workload
-Most of the people are wonderful
-Ability to learn a lot about the municipal utility business
-Met and worked with a lot of great consultants

I took the job without any prior utility engineering experience and realized I very much love the water/wastewater industry through this job. The City has a great outlook and stays very busy which is nice. It's a fun place to work and learn.

    Cons

The vast majority of the work falls on a small portion of the staff. If you are one of those getting the good projects it is fun yet stressful at times. It appears that there is no rhyme or reason for promotions, definitely not merit based in my opinion. People get promotions more by who they know. Upper management appears to not care for the people very deeply, simply wants the work done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Distribute workload more evenly. If people can't carry their fair share they should be let go. People are the greatest asset in this organization and at time it doesn't appear that they care much.

    Pros

The people in the IT department are friendly and knowledgeable.
There is a team environment and people collaborate well together.
Time off is given when needed.
    Good training opportunities.
Good use of current hardware and software solutions.
    Innovative and forward thinking.

    Cons

Processes. Because the City operates on tax payer dollars, there are lots of processes to be followed and documented for accountability. The idea is sound, however sometimes the processes can get in the way of accomplishing a task.
