    Pros

People are great, pay is decent, benefits outstanding!

    Cons

Highest levels do not listen to staff. Lots of poorly trained managers. Not flexible organization.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what employees are saying. Quit losing good people because managers are poor but have you snowed over. Times have changed. Be flexible.

    Pros

Great on-going training. Work with your peers. The leadership positions were hired on merit and experience. People were promoted in a very professional matter despite being a seasonal job for high school and college aged kids (there were some exceptions to the age range.) LOTS of breaks. Life guards would get at least 15 minutes of down time per hour on busy days (sometimes 30 minutes of down time per hour. There were some light cleaning duties that needed to be done but most of it was inside the locker rooms and the like.) GREAT PAY! For a seasonal job when home from college it was the best! Great co-workers. The patrons. There were some regulars who absolutely loved the park and everyone who worked there. They made an effort to get to know us.

    Cons

Not enough hours for some life guards. Expectation to workout without pay on some occasions. City of Renton higher-ups who didn't have any idea how water recreation sites work had strong opinions on how we should do our job which made NO sense at times.

    Pros

Decent pay, fast paced in some areas, relative stability, and good co-workers

    Cons

Politics can be brutal and it is possible to spend a lot of time on mindless budget development or chasing the latest customer complaint (no matter how small). City staff are not being used to their full potential.

    Advice to Management

Mayor needs to review administrator performance and staff satisfaction levels. Once the economy gets a lot better people are likely to leave.

    Pros

The best part about working here was the laid back attitude of management and the fun people you work with.

    Cons

Some downsides are the quality of some of the other lifeguards. Some are great people to work with others are lazy and incompetent.

    Advice to Management

Enacting a tougher screening process to weed out some of the lower quality guards would solve numerous problems in the work place.
