    Pros

You will always have something to do.

    Cons

There will always be someone who doesnt do anything but doesnt get fire.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to hire young talents and retain them, you will need to change the current benefit or salary scale. You can't expect to hire or retain the best, when taking away both.

I have been working at City of Sacramento full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits, good balance job/life.

    Cons

Performance evaluation are based on nothing more than how well you kiss-up to the boss.
They have a very strong reactive and no proactive activity is possible. They have "short view" mentality when you try to point out or correct any problems, or improve the overall operating efficiency. The CIO is rude, and thinks to have a great IT system, but it is horrible and ineffective. Management and supervisors are poorly trained. It's a great place to draw a paycheck, but if you aspire to make a difference, don't come here, you will not resist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Study how to manage problems. Look outside to see what is going on.

I have been working at City of Sacramento full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The job has provided a stable paycheck and decent benefits. Most employees are friendly.

    Cons

The city would rather spend their money on frivolous adventures than on their employees. They have hopped on the "fiscal emergency" bandwagon and want the employees to sacrifice to deal with their inability to properly budget and prioritize.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you value your employees they will work harder for you than you could imagine.

I worked at City of Sacramento

    Pros

It was very satisfying being able to help others in their hour of need. And my co workers were more like a big family rather than just co workers.

    Cons

I had a very difficult time with how the management team was ran and how they seemed to be unfair with each employee instead of having a blanket set of rules and guidelines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would listen to the employees and consider all their needs and treat them all equally and not individually if they are the very same circumstances.

    Pros

There are some really great restaurants to go to at lunch, but if you are looking for job satisfactions look elsewhere. Management is not friendly to the employee.

    Cons

Horrible money management. The city is more concerned with the Kings than they are with moral and employee longevity. This city is a great example of how not to run a municipality.

I worked at City of Sacramento

    Pros

The City of Sacramento offers great salaries and retirement plans. In better budget times employee morale was high. You felt as if you were part of family while working there.

    Cons

Departments communicated from within; however, communication between departments was lacking. When furlough days were implemented employee morale went way down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase low budget recognition programs in order to retain employees. Most employees work on their furlough days which should be discouraged.
