I have been working at City of Tempe part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The best reason to work here is the flexible evening hours and the ability to set your own schedule. It also has an excellent staff full of personable and easy going people who have great stories and interesting outlooks on life.

    Cons

Some of the challenges of working here is the difficulty in getting promotions and pay raises. Additionally, some of the vehicles that are given to staff are not cleaned inside regularly, even though they are well maintained mechanically.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some positions should have an increase in responsibilities. There should be more training and room for life-long employment as a full time staff member.

    Pros

Good pay, co-workers. Benefits are adequate but have gone down lately.

    Cons

Management is horrible, they don't care about skills or quality, more about loyalty and covering each other.

Not real sure on any cons yet, you might get dirty at work?

I worked at City of Tempe part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The office culture is nurturing, artistic and collaborative. Great coworkers.Training is hands on. My Supervisor was a good leader and wouldn't ask anyone to do something that she wouldn't do. Flexible schedule.

    Cons

Benefits weren't offered to part-time employees. However, full-time wasn't an option for the midday shift. The compensation was capped.

I have been working at City of Tempe part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great experience especially if you are going into the educational field.
Escalante has great supervisors to work for.
    Great summer employment

    Cons

It is in a rough area and some times the kids can be a bit challenging.
Would not be a sufficient full time job unless you are a supervisor (Pay wise)

I have been working at City of Tempe part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Great flexibility for students
    Very nice perks
    Very accessible and open management

    Cons

Very poor budget decisions, ie wasteful remodels, collections policies, too many inexperienced hires, no discipline from management

Even with great management openness and accessibility, backstabbing, sociopathic behavior still rises to the top.

Poor training, no best practices, no micromanagement ensures inefficient labor

Fiscal decisions on high have created attrition

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Daily meetings, leads, best practices needed at labor level. Otherwise great job being so flexible and allowing work/life balance, seeking ideas from the labor

I worked at City of Tempe part-time

    Pros

Direct supervisor was tremendous, senior leadership was questionable. Good pay for the job. Some good people to work with overall.

    Cons

Some colleagues not up to standard. Hiring practices could be improved a bit to improve staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

be progressive and do not be afraid to lean on people who have been employed a long time and have seen things done a number of ways.
