I have been working at CityGrid Media full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Working at CityGrid is half way between working for a startup and a large company since it is owned by IAC. Employees get the best of both worlds as we are able to move quickly and make a material impact on the business and at the same time take advantage of what is traditionally large company benefits.

    Cons

The local advertising industry as a whole has been suffering over the past few years. So far CityGrid has been able to weather the storm.

I have been working at CityGrid Media full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

CityGrid had a rough time in 2012 and 2013. New products didn't launch or time or have as big of impact as expected. Trying to win both SMBs and Consumers was not working and we were trying to do it all. Since the company was restructured in June 2013 we are a small, motivated bunch. Teams work well with one another, it's easy to figure who is responsible for what, decisions are made quickly, there is a focus on data-driven decision making and A/B testing and my favorite - individuals are empowered to make a difference. Whether suggesting a new technology to use and why, suggesting product changes or changes to processes. People listing and I feel both heard and valued.

    Cons

There are fewer senior team members in specific roles that I can learn from. From a technical perspective, some things are done quickly but others can take a whole because the system has so many components.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the plunge and try out new and riskier products that have real benefit to someone - rather than just focusing on the bottom line.

    Cons

CFO was not straight forward, CEO Jason Finger was put into a tough task of laying people off. He acquired Felix and although it seemed good, it was only a ploy.

    Pros

Bagel Fridays. Interesting vagrants on Sunset Blvd. Pay is OK.

    Cons

Completely creepy and un-transparent parent company (IAC). Caste system for vacay, parking spots. Uninspiring product.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at yourselves in the mirror. Don't purport to have values you shamelessly flout. Better for morale to just be open and transparent about your greed and indifference towards others.

    Negative Outlook
