Don't get your ears pierced here...

Store Manager (Former Employee) Destin, FL

Prosnone whatsoever. It's a horrible work environment.

ConsYour insurance sucks. You pay by salary. Employees working alone with no assistance. I'm trying tofigure out how Claire's stays in business.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't give everyone 18+ a set of keys to the store. Raise your level of shrink. 30% loss of yearly profits shows that you know every tween/teen steals from you. ACTUALLY TRAIN YOUR PIERCERS!!! 2 videos and adult sized practice ears sure HELL doesn't properly train you for a 6 month old BABY. Figure out some other way to organize your backrooms. Tupperware bins ain't working people

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Don't work here!!

Third Key Holder (Current Employee) Calgary, AB (Canada)

Prosyou get a pretty good discount of 50 percent off everything including clearance except when 10 for 10 is on and most of the time if you need a day off for an appointment or something theyll give it off

Consmanagement is a joke. i worked there for 6 months and we went through 3 store managers, 2 assistant managers and several sales people/ third keys left too. i ended up having to work50-60 hours a week and then they finally hired a couple people and my hours were put down to like 15. the DM for calgary is really rude and demanding and she will change her mind about floor plans like 10 times and then get mad at you when you havent finished it because she keeps making you restart halfway through. she also tends to only hire store managers that she knows outside of work and she gossips with them and will go for smoke breaks constantly but then yell at you when you go to get a drink quickly. breaks are quite often a joke as well. you get a half hour if you work 5 hours or more which is fine except that the way they schedule you often have to go like an hour before the end of your shift if youre opening or like as soon as you get there basically if youre closing and half the time you dont even get it and no one seems to care. schedules are also supposed to be posted 2 weeks in advance but often arent even made until the day before. you are expected to get through at least like 3 to 5 huge boxes of earrings and things in just a few hours which is impossible with customers and ear piercings constantly walking into the store. birthday parties are a joke the one that i did the girl was like 12 and was way too old for it and was just miserable the whole time. and they barely give you any training on doing ear piercings. you just watch a dvd do a couple on a foam ear and then they let go right ahead on customers. dont ever get pierced at or work for claires.

Advice to Senior Managementthe whole upper management needs to be replaced. you need people that care about thier employees and understand that we arent capable of doing 15 peoples work between like 3 people.

    RUN AWAY- RETAIL NIGHTMARE HERE

Store Manager (Former Employee) Newark, DE

ProsIt is a job, I guess....That is really about all anyone can say for it. Benefits are offered but good look affording them.

ConsToo many silly time consuming tasks, no breaks- even to pee, staff is provided and all just children, company ceo quit so headquarters is a joke, company is in bad shape financially

Advice to Senior ManagementGet out while you still can

    Overworked and Underpaid

Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee) Phoenix, AZ

ProsThe discount is 50% that is about the only good thing about working for this company. If you have a good store manager that hires a strong team you will be able to glide by for a short peorid of time.

ConsUpper management is very condescending. One day things are done one way the next the district manager changes her mind and wants things done another way. District manager is very controlling and plays favorites. They expect so much but offer little time to complete tasks they want done. Full store promotion changes every other day. They want you to basically stalk every customer that walks through the door and force them to buy what is "trendy and new." Every member of management above store level speaks at you and not to you.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn how to effectively manage stores and give praise where deserved rather then always looking for what is/was done wrong. Spend more time training employees then just thrusting them into the work environment. Spend more time training associates on how to pierce ears then a couple tries on a cardboard ear.

    Poor Management

Third Key Holder (Former Employee) Flagstaff, AZ

ProsPoor management, horrible rushed training, too many hours and then little to no hours, high employee turnover and District Manager highly unprofessional and rude. Are forced to sell to customers and constantly bug customers while they are shopping. ADS is the most ridiculous system sales is second important. Employees undervalued no growth opportunities

ConsPay for third key is a bit higher than minimum wage and you are allowed to be alone in the store so some sense of independence

Advice to Senior ManagementValue your employees more and give reasonable tasks. Don't leave all the dirty work for your employees get your hands dirty too and stop making promises you can not keep.

    Terrible for Store Managers

    Store Manager (Former Employee)

ProsNice discounts on everything including ear piercing

ConsOften the only employee in the store meaning no real breaks or lunch. No room for hours, too many cuts, not enough staff, too many planograms.....the list is LONG

Advice to Senior ManagementThere should be no reason that there is only one person in the store for hours on end. God forbid there is a call out, you are stuck doing an open to close by yourself, no breaks, if someone wont/cant come in. Many more complaints but cest la vie

This was probably the absolute worst place I have ever worked. The company is so unorganized. Stay away from this compan

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsLaid back, easy. I have nothing more good to say.

ConsThe company was unorganized. I had highest dollar per sale 3 months in a row, and was supposed to get a $25 gift card for every month. Never received any. I also only worked 3 hours a week with the promise of more hours once fully trained. After 6 months, the manager said that she just never had the time to train me, and made me tell the district manager that I had been fully trained.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy manager was fired, so I'm hoping that the management is fine now. But I quit long before that happened.

I worked at Claires Stores as a Third Key Holder and had to leave because of the unprofessional management.

    Third Key (Former Employee)

    ProsDiscount on merchandise, steady hours

ConsUnprofessional and dishonest in-store management with little to no help from upper level management.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep a better watch on in-store management
