    Pros

-Clariant had good pay and there was plenty of overtime for anyone who wanted it. -Benefits were also good, with a nice company match on a 401k

    Cons

It was not a big plant site, so there was not a lot of room for improvement at this particular site. Clariant did have multiple plants across North America though.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, but give employees a little more flexibility with how vacation can be used and with what type of rotating shift they would like to be on.

    Pros

Great benefits for Medical, Dental and Vision. Thats about the only positive I have to say about the company.

    Cons

Over promises and under delivers, does not have good management programs.

    Advice to Management

    Train employees

    Pros

Good benefits. A lot of great people, though the turnover rate is steadily increasing. Flexibility depending on your work area and manager. Apparent stability.

    Cons

Corporate culture is really broken. Targets are not aligned with directives and unethical methods are routine. Corporate literature discusses the customer and sounds poingient, actual management decisions are cost, cost, cost and actively hurting growth and customer relations. Decisions for the short term gain will be coming back around in the mid term.

    Advice to Management

Decide what your marketplace value proposition is, and stay true to it in decision making. Act like you care about your employees.

    Pros

Good company to work for, great benefits, and very enjoyable job offshore.

    Cons

Lack of communication with management made it hard to prove how good your work ethic and work produced really were. Also, the cyclical nature of the oil and gas industry left me getting laid off.

    Advice to Management

Communicate withyour employees, the good, the bad, and everything in between. It always makes the relationship and work a better place.

  8. Performance secondary to who you know. Strategic direction is nil: primary emphasis is on sales growth.

    Pros

Clearly stated goals, average benefits package, incentive compensation for sales growth, able to set own schedule to achieve goals, diverse product lines to sell.

    Cons

Little to no opportunity for current employees to advance in responsibilities and compensation. Most management positions are filled from the outside. A very weak middle management structure completely void of coaching and directing employees to be successful. Corporate marketing strategies have no meat to generate true sales growth.

    Advice to Management

Stop the 200 page PowerPoint presentations and focus on marketing projects based on technical and commercial realities.

    Pros

This company has a very professional, but not strict environment. Everyone is friendly, competent and cares about their work. They are very open to change and offer excellent workshops to help you advance, not only in areas you directly work in, but other areas of the business as well. There is a great work-life balance, and there is a lot of oppotunity to advance, even if it can take some time. There are also several business units to be a part of, and they're very focused on sustainable chemicals and innovation.

    Cons

There can occasionally be a disconnect between upper management and those lower on the totem pole, but for the most part everything is straight forward and there is ample communication. There are also some difficulties having similar business units in other countries, but they work hard to facilitate communication and allow for free-flowing work between each location.
