    Pros

    Apparent opportunities within the district.

    Cons

It is overall too political to benefit the students. High demands are made on teachers without supplying them with the materials, textbooks, and other necessary supplies.

    Advice to Management

Stop changing curricular ideas every 2-3 years. Let the students be taught from a stable curriculum so they can build upon their knowledge. Changing the skill set every few years is not in the best interest of the students. Treat teachers like professionals, and you will see results.

When home life interferes with education it is hard to watch students not achieve their full potential.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Medical and retirement benefits are considered good.

    Cons

Lack of teacher support, services for special needs children regularly denied, most admin are incompetent and demeaning to teachers, academics interrupted for time consuming fund raisers, year to year 2,000 teacher shortage (permanent long term unqualified subs in 2,000 positions, teacher expectations increase every year without supports, mandated daily & overall teacher paperwork takes up over 50% of teachers time! Burn out and maintaining positive energy to give to students is challenge. Finally, excessive changes of testing, lesson delivery, curriculum, computer programs, reporting procedures...etc..

    Advice to Management

Respect, listen to needs of teachers including requests on behalf of students, work WITH and not against your staff. Support teachers in all situations involving parents & others...have their back unless otherwise proven. Assure teachers you are there to help THEM. Kind word, now and then brings great returns!

    Pros

Working with students is amazing. Once in a while, I get that "lightbulb moment" from a student and it makes teaching, even as a sub, worthwhile.

    Cons

Instability of work. There is no work during school breaks, meaning no pay. At the beginning and end of the school year, work is hard to find.

    Advice to Management

Offer benefits and break time work options for subs.
