    Pros

Clayton's approach to business and our commitment to our associates is one in the same - an unwavering commitment to do things the right way. Sales Professionals have the ability to experience career growth through increased personal income and the opportunity to take on sales leadership roles.

    Cons

Working in a retail environment the hours can be difficult for some individuals to commit to but the need to be available to show homes and assist prospects on Saturday is a must.

    Advice to Management

Continue to explore additional housing options/floorplans that offer a great value to prospects. I believe in the Clayton product and believe that the more people we can share the benefits of building a Clayton Home versus contracting a site builder for Build on Your Lot projects will continue to increase Clayton's marketshare as America's Largest Homebuilder.

I worked at Clayton Homes full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Clayton Homes is the leader in the Manufactured Housing Industry. If you are seeking a job in that industry Clayton is the company to be with.

    Cons

The major downside to working with Clayton Homes is the industry itself. It was hit hard in the early 2000's by a housing crunch and has been slow to rebound.

    Advice to Management

Never forget who got Clayton Homes where it is today. It was Jim Clayton's original team that built the structure from the plant worker up.

I have been working at Clayton Homes full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company and manager are very family oriented and therefor flexible with scheduling when a family emergency or event comes up. Pay structure is nice, salary plus commission. They are closed major Holidays which shows they care about their employees.

    Cons

Still retail and sometimes includes working longer hours and some holidays. A lot of time and work invested before you see commission on a sale.

I have been working at Clayton Homes full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Not only does the company invest in their employers, they have a great wellness department and gym, basketball and volleyball, a great greenway jogging trail, and healthy greenway cafeteria!. They manage to maintain outstanding sales and has great backing as a Berkshire Hathaway company.

    Cons

Need new positions and more innovative employees to help lead the wonderful talent they have. Quicker growth opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Invest in current employers and create new roles that are essential within a company of their size. Would suggest looking at how similar businesses are structured.

I worked at Clayton Homes part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great facility, very friendly coworkers, and supervisors will usually be open to new ideas and improvements. The corporate office offers a great on-site cafeteria and a fantastic gym, too.

    Cons

I was only working in a part-time department, but it did seem that from my starting point that there were few ways to grow within a department. It seems that, in order to move up in the company, you need to jump around a lot. Some of the skill requirements for posted jobs we a bit unreasonable.

    Advice to Management

I can't say too much because I worked in a more "temporary" part-time department with a lot of turnover. The best I could think is to make sure that any quota-driven work be kept at a reasonable expectation so as not to discourage new folks. But, at the time of my employment, this was far from an issue.
