I worked at Clayton Homes as an intern

    Pros

    Great atmosphere with friendly coworkers
    Fantastic cafeteria, super healthy options
Clean gym with incentives to work out
    Decent internal mobility
Good benefits (health, 401k match, dental, etc)

    Cons

Because the company is starting to get older, some processes are becoming inefficient.
Certain departments and positions are only filled externally.
Pay depends a lot on company performance, so you have to accept variability in your income, which can be uncomfortable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay skeptical, keep looking for improvements

I worked at Clayton Homes full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Clayton Homes is the leader in the Manufactured Housing Industry. If you are seeking a job in that industry Clayton is the company to be with.

    Cons

The major downside to working with Clayton Homes is the industry itself. It was hit hard in the early 2000's by a housing crunch and has been slow to rebound.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Never forget who got Clayton Homes where it is today. It was Jim Clayton's original team that built the structure from the plant worker up.

I have been working at Clayton Homes

    Pros

Clayton's approach to business and our commitment to our associates is one in the same - an unwavering commitment to do things the right way. Sales Professionals have the ability to experience career growth through increased personal income and the opportunity to take on sales leadership roles.

    Cons

Working in a retail environment the hours can be difficult for some individuals to commit to but the need to be available to show homes and assist prospects on Saturday is a must.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to explore additional housing options/floorplans that offer a great value to prospects. I believe in the Clayton product and believe that the more people we can share the benefits of building a Clayton Home versus contracting a site builder for Build on Your Lot projects will continue to increase Clayton's marketshare as America's Largest Homebuilder.

I have been working at Clayton Homes full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A reasonably relaxed work environment for a sales job. There are several perks beyond strict $$ compensation. Over all they tend to promote a culture of family and success. You are selling a product that truly is top notch and the company always puts customers first ALWAYS.

    Cons

Hours don't match what is typical for the industry (as they are much longer), although they preach family being important its hard to take time off, compensation is extremely low when compared to the independents in this industry.

I have been working at Clayton Homes full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Incredible benefits - Insurance for my family was cheap, had a matching 401K, etc. The culture is positive as the company truly wants what's best for all (customer, employee, etc.)

    Cons

Working every Saturday. We never had a scheduled Saturday off. This varies store to store so in some cases it will be no problem. If the manager would give one Saturday out of four off, I think it would help.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Love the company...keep up the good work.

I worked at Clayton Homes full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company, great employees, helpful environment. Longevity, promotes from within, usually. Encourage healthy spiritual, mental and physical health

    Cons

Lots of shifts in upper management. Sell or have a good resume. Just moved to paying small salary versus draw from commission, but you better sell a house or two AT LEAST a month to survive. Fred Townsend was a horrible leader, but he's gone now, so morale is doing better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get people that actually believe in what were offering. The people will not buy into the vision if the management don't buy into it first.
