    Pros

Super friendly, smart, hard-working professionals. Good benefits, awesome work/life balance in an epic setting called Lake Tahoe. As a career-minded professional, you have the opportunity to not only maintain but enhance and grow your career if you are willing to put forth the effort.

    Cons

Clear Capital has often had to staff up quickly in Truckee and unfortunately, many entry-level hires have never worked in a corporate environment and don't know the meaning of work. I see a lack of gratitude and a sense of entitlement all too often in employees that either under perform or have no work ethic. Clear Capital will need to do a better job of hiring quality vs. quantity and weed out those folks that would rather operate a ski lift.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider acquiring talent at the management level that can bring an outside perspective from competitors and other successful companies. i.e. CTO, Operations Directors, Marketing, Public Relations

    Pros

Casual dress code, most people are friendly and upbeat, beautiful mountain setting, can wear headphones at your desk, most managers don't look over your shoulder every 5 minutes to make sure you're working.

    Cons

Company appeared to panic earlier in the year, did some layoffs, and now all departments are critically short staffed. Overtime is onerous, and mandatory (is that legal?). Some people are working as much as 70 hrs/wk, but still not getting on top of the volume.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a wide disconnect between upper management, middle management, and operations staff. Upper management seems to have forgotten that the work is tedious and not very rewarding, especially if family life suffers because of the number of hours we're required to work. And the little 'perks' (pizza, ice cream, sodas) are almost like an insult. We are adults--treat us like adults.

    Pros

ClearCapital has energetic and focused Leaders. Duane and Kevin have an amazing vision and are truly focused on leading their company into the future.

Pay (for me) was really good. I was overwhelmed at the bay area rates this close to Reno.

I've seen a good number of people get promotions and drive their own career paths within the company.

    Cons

Technology VPs have no idea whats going.
Direction and Vision in the technology group is not shared with staff.
The tech group is very fragmented and often pitted against each other.

Benefits, I've read other posts about Benefits at ClearCapital; Honestly they are a joke.
    - Obama-Care offers the similar medical coverages, for about the same rates.
    - Merit review/increases for a *top* employee were garbage (less than 3%)
    - Vacation days barely exist.
    - No profit sharing.
    - After working until 8am-3am, they expect you on site at 8am to start the day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Unite your tech folks, get some better management from the top down in that area. Involve everyone; quit being secretive.

It was pretty stressful to wonder if you were going to get fired because you disagreed with poor decisions.

Trust your subject matter experts to give you sound advice. You hired them to help you make those hard decisions; listen to them.

    Pros

Great location in Truckee, Ca. An OK job for the inexperienced with few expectations. Save for management, the employees are mostly pleasant considering the overbrearing environment.

    Cons

The operations manager makes Lumbergh look like boss of the year. The expectations are unrealistic. After a recent mass layoff, overtime is forced on the rest to make up for the reduction in production. This shop is based on quantity not quality, dissuade camaraderie, reviews are based on mandated overtime and how many reports you can push in an hour. Only the very few make real money and there is no semblance of reasoning behind promotions. Truly a case study on how not to manage employees.

    Pros

    Paid medical and great co-workers.

    Cons

Low pay, high pressure, mandatory OT, "yes man" culture. New CFO has instituted payscale that cut annual raises by roughly 2/3rds. Annual raises are now all but non-existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop talking about how much you care about your employees and actually show it. Too much time and effort is spent convincing your employees how great of a company they work for without management actually making that reality. Also, stop planting (fake) positive reviews here and actually make the company better to work for.

    Pros

Clear Capital is an innovative, growing company with a strong corporate culture. With 300+ people in its Truckee office, the work environment is lively and friendly. Part of why you love what you do and coming into the office is because you enjoy the company of your colleagues. If you like the structure of a corporate environment (which I do), with office hours, accountability and teamwork, Clear Capital is the place for you.

The ownership and management are focused on the growth and health of the company. We never do things because it's the way we've always done them. Feedback is always welcomed. And at every level in the organization, you are expected to take ownership of your job. In a community of small businesses that rely on tourism, growth is a struggle. Clear Capital has continued to grow since it was founded in 2001 and through the recession. There's a ton of peace of mind in this.

I have worked for companies where the owners and top level managers were delegators and never present. At Clear Capital, this is very different. No one works harder or pulls longer hours than its owners, Executive leadership, and directors. They really inspire you do work hard and care as much as they do.

Clear Capital offers a great health, vision, dental, 401K plan. After working in a corporate job in the city for years, I took good health insurance for granted. Never again! After paying high premiums for a PPO that only offered catastrophic health insurance, I will never take paid health insurance and really good health insurance for granted.

    Cons

Truckee-Tahoe is an amazing recreational community that offers a lot of flexibility in seasonal positions. "Powder days" and "Tahoe time" are commonly used terms. After big storms, there are lots of people who take the next day off to ski or board. "Tahoe time" refers to our easy going way of life and the idea of not being on a schedule. You may find people in Tahoe stroll and move at their own pace, which means they're often late. Clear Capital doesn't offer this type of flexibility. You have clear working hours and are expected to arrive to the office on time, take your allotted breaks and leave no sooner than when your workday ends. If you choose to take a powder day, you're taking from your two weeks of paid vacation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think others in the organization would get a ton of value from more access to upper management -- brown bag lunches or upper management offices in operational divisions of the company?

    1) No out pocket monthly cont. for medical

    3) Coworkers are great, like minded people

    Cons

    Where to start...

I read the reviews before typing my own, all the negative comments are accurate, Sweatshop and Office Space are perfect comparisons. Constant OT, you have a 50 hour a week job, not a 40. You're virtually chained to your IKEA desk. My 5 teammates would always joke about singing songs out loud while our team lead stood behind us with a whip. SweatSpace only succeeds because no one wants to work for $10 an hour at the ski resorts. The founders of the company started the business 10-12 years ago, now it has grown to 300+ people and they have no idea how to manage a medium sized company. I watched several very experienced VPs get hired on from outside the company and get fired in less than 6 months. Executive management wants ditch-diggers who say yes without question. If you disagree with a direction and voice your opinion then you make their secret blacklist. Once there, you haven't a chance to move up in the company. If you decide to work here, please do yourself a favor and don't take your job seriously, use it as stepping stone while you enjoy what Truckee has to offer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Soon you are going to dry up the tallent pool, mainly because everyone in town currently or use to work there and disliked their experience. Better move the business down to Reno ASAP, no shortage of college grads there.

    Pros

Amazing location in a beautiful mountain town. Minutes to ski resorts. You work with some good people who are really working hard.

    Cons

The company is managed by bad people. They have fostered a culture of staleness and actively fight well-established technical realities such as agile SDLC and modern development practices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of managers that spend their days fighting innovation.

    Pros

Consistent year-round w/benefits in Truckee, CA which is hard to come by. If you are a Type A personality that wishes to strive in Corporate America and are able to become a Team Lead and 'micro-manage' others than this is for you.

    Cons

Masters of Perception Management - When you first start to work there and attend the fancy Holiday Party and get some extra cream-cheese with your bagels you might think, "Wow this is a great place to work!" but once you make a mistake, question management or don't want to work 50hrs one week and you are ostracized by ground-level managers you might ask, "Why am I here?"

They have mastered the Art of squeezing every ounce of productivity from their employees. Think modern-day factory work, except you are sitting at a desk pushing buttons.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't pretend to interview for advancement positions when you have already shoulder tapped who you will promote. More transparency.

By saying, "Clear Capital is a great place to work." does not make it true. How do you go beyond open work environment (no cubicles), real plants, and pleasantly painted walls to achieve this?
