Less than honest management who use people unscrupulously and then toss them aside when they're done with them.

    I worked at ClearOne full-time

    Pros

Market leading products and very innovative technology. Talented engineers and software programmers. Enjoyed working with most of the people. Benefits were good.

    Cons

CEO and PLMs (Product Line Managers) very difficult to work with due to unrealistic expectations. PLM was caught in deceptive practice and was reprimanded by HR Manager. In one years time, the Apps Manager, Purchasing Manager, Marketing Director, Marketing Analyst, Training Manager and Admin. Asst. all left the company voluntarily.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put people first rather than using them as if they're expendable. Replace the PLMs, which aren't functioning as PLMs should and who have caused the majority of the company's problems (unnecessary stress levels and unrealistic objectives).

    Pros

I guess they keep paying you, that's a plus.

    Cons

Hostile environment. Management is only concerned with the bottom line, never the actual product. No one technical is allowed to help to plan for future products. Everything is done based on what the competition released last year. Nearly zero chance for a real career here, they almost never promote with-in. Raises are given maybe once in a few years. Many promises are made for on-time-bonuses, or compensation for the mandatory overtime, but when asked for those things become impossible. Asked to work on "new technology", but given computers still running windows XP.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating your technical people like cattle. Learn to listen to your employees. Get rid of people who are obviously incompetent and can't even do the job they were hired for. Don't keep them around for years waiting for them to "get better at it". People work hard to get jobs in the electronics industry because it doesn't demand 60 hour work weeks, but not here.

    Pros

There are no pros. Maybe it just beats being unemployed.

    Cons

Put it this way. If you're a masochist, enjoy pain and suffering, love hourly conflict with everyone you work with, this is the place for you. Otherwise avoid at all costs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit and let the stockholders bring in an entirely new team from the top down.

    Pros

Benefits were good. Pay was fair, but they never had a yearly review even when requested. There was no reason to try harder and they weren't motivate or supportive.

    Cons

Managers and engineers are hard to work with. No respect or community. Felt disrespected and people play the blame game.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to be effective managers and also understand the products you are selling and building.

The worst company I have ever worked for. Toxic, negative, and unpleasant

I worked at ClearOne full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The employees that work there tend to be really good people that try really hard at their jobs, and work hard at what they do. My happiest day was my last day working there.

    Cons

Starts with upper management, especially the CEO. She is rude, a micro-manager, and a impossible woman to work for. She literally yells at employees, and can be heard throughout the office, even with her door closed. She has to be involved in every detail of every project that an employee is working on. She has a dog that constantly barks, and leaves messes by employees' desks and in the hall. Other upper management don't respond to emails, don't provide the information employees need to complete their jobs. The average employee works 9-10 hours a day straight without taking breaks or lunch. Many work from home and on the weekends. The company had a record year, and no bonuses were given as promised. Everyone is afraid of the CEO, as she has a short temper, and no one wants to be on her bad side. Toxic environment - employees were required to remove anything non work related from their desks - so no photos of family, no calendars, nothing is allowed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO has been heard to say that she has to do everyone else's job since they aren't qualified to do it. She has said multiple times that employees must do the job of 3 people, or they will be replaced. She yells, insults employees, and has made several cry during work hours. It's a terrible work environment, and talented employees are leaving the company at a rapid rate.

I have been working at ClearOne full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Innovative products and co-workers that really have formed a strong team. Stable company and hard working employees that really get along well together.

    Cons

Environment can be a bit dry at times as management is made of engineers. They could allow a little lighter touch and a little more self expression for the employees - especially the work areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow a little more flexibility and creativity in your employees.

    Pros

solid product, however, it's VoIP is 3 versions old, their video entry level model has fish-eye and their headsets are not wireless..

    Cons

the culture is very old school. they use a Henry Ford Scientific Management model instead of a Covey model. Upper management are just not into the people business. it's like people at HQ, those closest to the CEO, come to work and can't wait to find something that someone did wrong. People walk on egg shells, it's not a trusting environment and they listen to phones calls, not to help improve your communications, rather, it's to see if you're talking badly about the CEO.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

cash in a get out. that's all they are after anyway. they use an EoL MS server for their MCU, they are three version old on their VoIP, no functional CRM so all reportts are manually submitted via Excel and their VP of Sales can't spell video.

    Cons

Executive management is conducting research to demotivate their employees. No Sales Management....No Long term Goals.........

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to believe your employees and learn to motivate them...Empower your employees with more responsibilities and believe them to take the company next level....Plan for Employee Training Programs ..

    Pros

Some very good people, and great technology. Interesting products, and the company has a long history of market solutions and communication applications.

    Cons

No authority, no trust, no empowerment. If you want to work for a company and be a unit-of-production then this is the place for you. If you want to be told how to do your job then apply now. If you want to be forced to work 12 hour days, and love working every Saturday and Sunday and late every night, then make a be-line on over and you will enjoy yourself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Serve your employees, trust your employees, empower your employees, and you will find out that your people are your best resource.

My best advice is to allow the people you hired to actually do the job they were hired for. The other thing that would instantly make the company better in every way would be to remove the leadership and let anyone else in the company run the place. If that were to happen then not only would Clearone be a better place to work, but the company would exceed in every area.
